Does anyone recognize this cheap nameless Chinese tube?

B821A2AE-9176-47A4-B780-0770899453F7.jpeg I pulled this out of the normal channel of my DRRI which had been retubrd by a now retired well known local amp ‘ guru’ who was supposed to have gone through it and put JJs in across the board. I spend most of my time in the vibrato channel so I hadn’t really caught it.
I put a Tung Sol in and it woke it up quite a bit. Though the crummy tube didn’t sound horrible.
    Ignore my big ugly head.

Awesome... I also found a Groove Tubes 12ax7R in there. The only thing JJ in there were the 6L6s. I won’t name names but this guy was one of those fellas who is supposed to be ‘the guy’. That’s a shame.
On the upside, it’s a very nice sounding Reissue that is going to sound a whole lot better soon.

Moral- don’t trust an amp guru just because he’s an amp guru and learn to do the basics correctly yourself.

Some tubes are the fairydust that make a good amp an outstanding amp.
I used to have a magic set that was used for recording exclusively. Sadly I lost it after 4 times moving from one city to another.

Sounds like he used whatever he had laying around for pre-amp tubes. Unfortunate, but glad to hear you are getting it sorted out.

It’s unfortunate that someone would accept a bench fee and charge for a full set of specific tubes (that he’d recommended, I prefer Tung-Sols) and then just use ‘whatever he had laying around’.
The business ended up shutting a few weeks after he worked on my stuff which is a drag because at one point, I’m sure he was pretty great.

How bad can it be when the maker won’t put their name on a product?

I've had the same kind of experience with amp techs. My guy told me he would replace all the electrolytics, and for his fee they should have been. Opened up the amp when I got home and the original bypass caps were still in the amp...from 1962. That's when I resolved to learn how to do most of my own tech work.

They are the same valves/tubes that were fitted in fender champ 600 ri and the like.

20180524_155032.jpg Iv'e got a bunch of them that i have pulled and upgraded from 2 or 3 china made amps over the years...........
The question is, why have i still got them?
And I don't know because they are absolute junk!

It has a reason, that most players besides NOS tubes use JJ, Tungsoil or as I prefer, Genalex Gold Lion. No name? No, thanks.
