I've had encounters with spirits all my life, sometimes it will be very intense and then it will calm down again. All I had were stories though, and I don't blame anyone for not believing in me. I was too scared to do anything like an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) however, there was one time where me and my brother encountered a spirit in our house and I grabbed the cell phone and hit the voice recorder. I really didn't think it was going to work and for two months I never even listened to it. Then one day when my brother was bored waiting for me in the pharmacy, he listened to it. He said chills ran down his spine because he actually heard some voices. I transferred the file to my computer and used some audio software to enhance the EVPs. He answered a lot of our questions but the most incredible EVP I got was the spirit telling me his name: Thomas Mathew. I uploaded it here: I edited so you can hear it as soon as you click on it. There were a lot of other EVPs but this one was incredible.

So do you believe in the afterlife/spirits? Have you ever had an encounter with one? I would love to hear your experiences.

"Believe in" is a funny phrase, with 2 related but different meetings. In this case, while I am open to the possibility of spirits or supernatural, I have no belief or confidence that they do exist, and I certainly don't worship them (the other common usage of that phrase). I tend to think that the supernatural is an unexplained natural phenomenon. Of course, spirits may be completely natural.

    I’m with @Henry.
I don’t NOT believe in them, but I’m also very indifferent about it. We live in a very old house, and the previous occupants are certain there are ghosts here. Maybe there are, maybe there aren’t. As long as they don’t knock my guitars off their stands or soil the rugs, I don’t care.

However, I do enjoy stories about them.

I've had some encounters myself, things that really can't be explained away so I'm with you. I'm a believer;)

However... I definitely believe there are things that happen that can’t be explained with human minds or words. I’ve also witnessed “coincidences” that are too perfect to not seem as if the universe was intervening somehow....
I just take them, except them, and enjoy the mystery.

I’ll remain ambivalent as long as they don’t become malevolent :)

My wife claims to have had encounters in our home. I can't say that I have ever felt anything like that in my home or any other place. I don't dismiss the possibility but I can't validate any of it.

I do not believe in ghosts but I can imagine that are more dimensions than ours. Maybe there are many parallel universes and at some point they touch each other creating phenomenons we do not understand, yet.

Personally, I have never seen a ghost, but I have felt different presences, and I am convinced there is a whole lot that goes on beyond our five senses.

All I can say is that I’ve never seen anything that made me feel a spirit was involved; other than The Holy Spirit of course.

I have a co-worker who is convinced she speaks with angels and spirits, we had a very odd mutual experience that could not have been faked because it involved people she did not know and events we had never discussed. I know that there is an unseen world around us.

I have seen a UFO over Lake Mead, Nevada when I was a kid. I don’t believe we had the technology to create what I saw but I don’t really know. We weren’t too far from Area 51 and whatever goes on there?

I had a very curious mind as a young man and spent a lot of time on the outskirts of the occult. I learned that there are unseen forces at work. I also reasoned early that there is no such thing as a free lunch and if you don’t know how you’re “helper” is being compensated; you probably don’t want to know.

The wisdom I trust tells me to keep far away from these entities.

I have relatives very convinced, one has a house that is haunted. I described the ghost they thought they had but they never show up when I am around, at any place where people say they should be. I do not believe ghosts are our friends family or relatives. I believe that they are all demons just posing as such. I do however believe in parallel worlds and other dimensions.

It's easier to see an unseen world when your eyes are closed. My only faith is science.

Sounds like you managed to explain them away. ;)

To be honest , I do believe myself .
My mother passed away 32 years ago today in fact ( 07/13/87 ) . It was on this date that about 2 a.m. my phone rang ( a desk top rotary with a real bell to wake me up ) . Funny thing tho , something woke me a split second before it rang . I opened my eyes as I woke , looked at the phone .... and it rang , but something woke me that split second before . My sister had called me and simply said " I think you should come over " . As I drove over to my mother and fathers house . I arrived to find my sister was on the front lawn crying and sobbingly said " she's gone " . I walked into the house and up the stairs . The moment I walked into my mothers room and saw her lying in bed ..... I just felt her walk right through me . I always said she walked to me and wanted to give me one last hug goodbye .............

I do have some psychic sensitivity, or at least I did with my grandmother. I always knew when she was going to phone us and would tell my mother that she would be calling soon, and without fail my grandmother called within 10 minutes of my announcing it.

I also had a spooky experience as a teenager, I was living in a flat share with a couple of friends and one night we went for a walk along the beach, just having a bit of a laugh. I found an old bit of rope, and being someone whose hands always need to be doing something, I made a noose. Now I will state that I had no dark thoughts about ending it all, I was just being a psychobilly teenager! When we returned to the flat I hung the noose in my wardrobe and thought nothing more of it. A couple of nights later we were in the living room and heard some footsteps in the hall, thinking this was a bit worrying as we were all in the room, I went into the hall and there was nothing there. The temperature in the hall was much lower than the rest of the flat and was cold (this was mid August). Every night the footsteps continued on, getting closer and closer to one of the bedroom doors. Every time we heard them one of us would check and there was never anyone to be seen. After a few nights, the girlfriend of one of my flatmates was getting a bit freaked out and we heard scrabbling in the bedroom where the footsteps were heading and then walking in the loft area, which had been boarded up prior to letting. It was decided that I get rid of the noose and as soon as I did, the noises stopped.

Freaky? Yes, but I felt no malevolence.

Yeah, they're almost doing strange things everyDay as I use to say to my wife.

First they're targeting the fridge at night starting with cheese, all sugaries and beers, daaah ! Old damned alcoolicos!
Then they're used to order old porn vhs on amazon... this is crazy these ghosts know everything about how New stuff works.
Actually they're always let the house basement in great disorder. Fukkin' ghosts and spirits, stop doing razzias on bottles of french wine and Please switch off the tv screen before getting too drunk to realized. Morevoer vomitting is even worst when it has been in some hidden places of the house, Please be adults sometimes !

    Who knows?

My wife and daughter are believers---claim our old house was haunted, or at least, had a resident spirit, a young girl. Folks who used to live there (house was over 100 years old) visited and mentioned it as well. I've no evidence myself.

I feel it's a matter of faith---like religion or UFOs or reincarnation or what happens when we die. A belief has no available proof---that's why they call it a belief. There's only one way to know for sure, and I think I'll just have to wait till then to find out these answers.
