Last week my wife wanted me to learn the Johnny Burnette song "Train kept a running". I went on you tube and listened to several versions. Then I clicked on Emelda May.
Wow, I am blown away with her. And then I saw her guitarist, Darrl Higham playing a Gretsch and that was it! Great singer, great songs, great band, and now I find it is no more. They were married, divorced and he left the band. She changed her style and has gotten away from the rock-a-billy/jazz leanings, still very good, just not the same.

I'm guessing the folks in the UK have followed her for a long time but I must live under a rock because I had no idea she was out there making such great music. Now I need to order some CDs.

Imelda is fantastic. Check out the Jeff Beck Rock n Roll Party album.

You just haven't been spending enough time on the Gretsch forums. They've garnered a lot of attention here and on the Gretsch Pages for years.

I only joined this place last year when I became interested in getting a Gretsch. I should do a search of both of them.
Too bad I missed them at the time! I really like the whole band.

They were awesome together. My g/f has been doing Imelda May songs in my band for years. We saw them live a few times as well. On one of these gigs, we got to meet Darrel and he brought out the prototype 6120/Falcon hybrid that Gretsch custom shop made for him. He played it that night and it sounded amazing! Nice guy! Great show!

And his work away from Imelda is great too! He fronts his own projects. Always has. I have a couple of his solo albums. Watching him play is like being in a master class!

I'm not responding to your post, rather I want to respond to your user name her. Mr. Majestyk! Man, where the heck did you pull that one from? Let's be honest, it's not a very well known Chuck Bronson film (though it was a favorite of mine when I was a kid). It's pretty funny to see someone use that somewhat obscure film as a user name. Respect to you.

I've been a fan of Imelda and Darrl for a long time now, but never too late to join the party!

Darrel and Peavey had Peerless in Korea make the Rockingham, which was the same guitar as the Gretsch G3131 and the Carlo Robelli RB1955, which I had for a few years. He switched back to Gretsch, but still has his Rockingham! And Peerless still makes the guitar, in white, called the Gigmaster Custom.

In an interview I saw, Darrel said Imelda was a good sport for doing the rock-a-billy thing. She was raised on jazz. So with Darrel gone, she seems to have gone back to it.
