Last night the technicians came and took away the SSL L500+ digital console to go on tour. This morning the Digico SD12 took its place on my workbench for evaluation, including probing for software weaknesses and hardware reliability. More fun time poking and prodding this unit to see how it behaves under pressure.
It's quite a compact unit considering its resources:
72 input channels with 4-band parametric EQ, 2 dynamic inserts (compressor/gate/de-esser)
38 mix busses configurable aux/group/masters all with full EQ and compressor/gate/de-esser.
    12 onboard digital FX engines
    16 1/3 oct graphic EQs
12 VCAs, 8 mute groups, user programmable macros.
    Full Automation package
    Remote overview screen.
    48/96k sample rates

The memory in the mixer is phenomenal, but the memory in my head is reaching saturation.

Looks like it belongs in the cockpit of the space shuttle.

Remember when you couldn't take a calculator to class?

Yep, and the calculators were too large to hide!
True story: Last year I was teaching a class in electrical theory. One of the test questions involved multiplying 10 x 100. Half the class gave the answer as 10,000 but the rest were stumped and couldn't answer at all. I was shocked and asked them why they had all got it wrong. Their answer was because I had made them turn off their mobile phones in class they didn't have access to their calculators in the phones. They were unable to multiply by 10 as mental arithmetic!:eek::eek:

I just wish show files were compatible between various SD models, as they are with Avids.

You can use the Digico SD Convert software utility to move a showfile from one platform to another.

Schools have changed over the last 60 years. I went to a parochial school, and we basically had the Four Rs. I'm no mathlete, but I can do most of what I've ever needed in my head, and pencil and paper for the rest.

My family moved a lot. I went to 9 different schools in 12 years including 3 different high schools. The main things I learned were how to make friends easily and not get my head punched in! ;)

Catholic school here also ( I had to say " Catholic School " because most don't know what the word " parochial " means .... lol ) I remember discussing this with you a long time ago . All the nuns are related back then and would give you a good crack if you stepped out of line . Funny thing though ..... it worked .

The Penguins were of one extreme or the other. Either they were like a favorite aunt, or, Attila the Nun. The stories you have all heard are true---and then some.

But PC only. In the US the sound world is mostly a Mac world.
