Thought it would be fun to have a thread where everyone gets rid of their personal demons on music taste and stuff like that. Basically opinions everyone else seems to disagree with.

    I'll start:

Brian May was a better singer than Freddie Mercury in my experience.
    Bob Dylan sucks.
Jimi Hendrix while a good guitarist by all means wasn't the greatest guitarist of all time.
Muzak isn't as bad it might sound.
I like the Black Album (Metallica)
    Coldplay is okay.
    James Blunt too.
Justin Beiber music isn't better or hugely worse than any of the other pop music out there.

    Alright, I'll bite.

About 20% of Pop music isn't actually that bad. I'm particularly happy that I keep hearing saxophones (or imitations of their sound) show up.

I saw Brian May in concert and he was terrific. I know he sings on the Queen recordings but I've never seen him sing in any live video.
Bob Dylan is terrific - imagine a world without 'Blowing In The Wind' - He also made it okay for guys like me who can't sing very well at all to 'have a go'.
Hendrix had hands like a bunch of bananas - his reach was apparently eight frets. He could play very well indeed, but Chet Atkins he's not!
I seriously dislike all TV talent shows.
I wish modern singers would just sing the notes and stop warbling over EVERYTHING!
Bruce Springsteen's best album The Seeger Sessions
Mark Knopfler is a gift from God to the world
Singing along is NOT singing harmony
A band is the servant of the singer - A singer is the servant of the song.

Lyrics are cheesy; true musical expression requires no words.

Oooooo... another one of these threads.

I HATE LED ZEPPLIN AND PINK FLOYD. I'm right, you're wrong.
One ripped everyone off and is overplayed, the other is boring and overplayed.

Been laughing at TV show music. Watching Netflix with the closed caption on and noticing that the lyrics to the background songs seem like they were grabbed out of a barrel. One line has nothing to do with the next. Who writes that stuff?

To-may-to, to-mah-to... everyone's entitled to their opinion-- which doesn't necessarily make it any more or less valid than the next person's.;)

I'm with you guys on Dylan, LZ & PF.

Pop musical has just as much artistic value as any other form of music.

John Cage was a muppet who gave nothing of value.

    Sunn 0))) are brilliant

That's what I was gonna say. If we are talking about "popular music", I'd say more like at any given time, across all genres, 90% has been and is, crap. That does leave a huge amount of good music. It's wading through the 90% crap to hear the good stuff that... um... yeah.

Country music of the last 20 years is the most ignorant, dumbed-down, formulaic, embarrassingly bad dogcrap I have ever heard in my life. It's even worse than rap and hip-hop, both of which I can't stand.

Hand to God Almighty, it makes me angry and irritable to hear it for any length of time.

    Okay...I'll play...here's my top 10...

    10. Bruce Springsteen sucks.

    9. Bob Dylan sucks.

    8. The Doors and Jim Morrison REALLY sucked.

    7. Rap and HipHop should not even be classified as "music" nor should any of their artists be classified as "musicians". It's just urban poetry.

    6. 99.9% of original compositions being posted on the internet sucks.

    5. Bands that can't do a convincing job of playing covers should NEVER play their own original songs.

    4. Having a CD does not give your band "legitimacy". After all, who DOESN'T have a CD nowdays??

    3. Political correctness is idiotic.

    2. "Vintage" music gear and the prices associated with them is a scam.

    AND THE BIG ONE.

    1. The reason people claim you can only get decent tone from a tube amp and pedals nowdays is because they A) Can't figure out how to configure and use a decent modeling amp, or B) Are trying to justify the ridiculous amount of money they invested in their tube amps and pedals.
