Here are 8 different versions of Walk Don't Run - Johnny Smith, Chet Atkins, the Shadows, the Ventures and others. (Including vocals!) Which are your favorites?

0:30 Johnny Smith 1:14 Chet Atkins 2:13 The Ventures 3:11 Tommy Leonetti 4:06 Glen Campbell 5:04 Herb Alpert 6:02 Pink Fairies 7:04 The Shadows

Anybody have other favorites? (There are more than 100 on iTunes - albeit with duplicates.)

I like the Johnny Smith version. Didn't know that the Ventures was not the original. I funk it up like Johnny Smith does even though I had never heard this version. It just seems to flow.

I loved the Ventures and shadow’s version. Johnny’s and Chet’s I could at least listen to and appreciate. The others, even loving Glen like I do, I could not wait for them to end.

Very true to the Ventures version with a fun little break in it and nice ending.

NOW, I'd put JFA at #1, followed by the Ventures and Herb Alpert. I was disappointed in Hank Marvin, expected more, and Tommy L. made me puke.

The Ventures were my first guitar heroes and I learned their version...still my favorite...didnt care for the 1964 version when it came out and they switched to Mosrite guitars and the sound was different....my first good guitar was a Fender jazzmaster that I bought used in 1963 (so it had to be an early one)... I am assuming everyone knows that Johnny Smith wrote the tune and his version is actually my second favorite as he was my second guitar hero, and then came Chet.

I grew up hearing the Ventures' version, and since my dad was a Herb Alpert fan, I heard that one was well. For that reason, those are my favorites. Very close behind is the Johnny Smith version, and the rest are way back in the dust.

I agree, they certainly brought it to the mass market, but Johnny did write it. :) Johnny was not thrilled that the Ventures turned his song into a Rock ‘n’ Roll tune, but the money came in handy, especially since he suffered a fingertip injury in the ‘60s and was hindered from playing for a time.

The Ventures one from the late '50s for me.
Being a Brit and having grown up being force fed the Shadows by my Dad, I should lean that way, but they recorded it too late. It sounds very '70s disco, and at a time when they pretty much gave up writing original tunes.
