    Hi friends-

I will be in Chicago for the first week in May, attending a conference at the Drake Hotel. Any recommendations for can’t miss eateries within walking distance? Thx

From The Drake Hotel you are really at a walking distance from really great food.

About 10/15 minute walk either West or South of the Drake Hotel, you are in for a treat!

Some food places on State Street:

    Hugo's
    Gibsons
    Tavern on Rush
    Lou Malnatis

All these places are literally across the street from each other on State/Rush.
Note that with the exception of Lou Malnatis, these places are pricey.

On Michigan avenue, you have the more tourist-y places.

    Cheesecake Factory

West on Chicago Avenue you have fast food joints.

    Chic-Fil-A
    McDonalds
    Potbelly
    Jimmy Johns
    Various Hot Dog places

There used to be a place called Johnny's Grill around the corner there but it's now gone.

Don't know the town well, but a favorite of mine is Kuma's Corner heavy metal burger bar. Really good burgers, most named for various metal bands or songs. There are a handful of locations, one looks to be 2.5 miles from the Drake Hotel. Uber? Good heavy metal music on the box too.

I've only been to the original location (2 or 3 times), great each time.

Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse has a location 1.2 miles from the Drake. It is a bit pricey, but some years ago I ate at their Rosemont location, one of the best meals out I can recall, ever.

    Gibson’s? No Gretsch’s Grill?

    Thanks for the recommendations, everybody

Enjoy the local flavors. You can go to a chain anywhere. Definitely get some deep dish or thin crust bar style pizza, and a Chicago dog or Polish sausage (kielbasa) is a must! All washed down with an Old Style!

I don’t know if it’s within walking distance but my friend and former magic partner works here and it’s definitely a must see type of place

Some of the best food I've ever eaten was at "Girl & The Goat." But not really the food that made Chicago famous, and I don't think it's within walking distance.
