Going way off track but now all I can think of is the early scorpions album cover that grabbed me as a kid besides Ohio Players

I disagree - copyrights should last forever if it's an original idea and design. People spend years and sometimes a lifetime inventing things. It costs them lots of money and a lot of time to do it. It's work and they should be able to make money off of their hard work without someone coming along and making money off of stealing some one's idea. If you think it's okay then how about me coming to your place of work and talking your boss into giving me your pay check just because I think it should be mine....
As far as PRS goes they're not doing anything that hasn't been done before. I have a Gibson from the 70s that came stock with coil tapping. Gibson had varitone switching on 345's back in the 60s. PRS ripped off the Gibson Les Paul just like all the companies in the 80s that ripped off the Fender Strat & Telly designs.
To me it's just another form of stealing.

Yeah and the Chinese ones are pieces of turds. I have an original Dyson that's about 17 years old - still runs great and built like a tank. On the strength of that one I bought one of the new ones (the Ball) - it's a Chinese turd and I won't buy anymore of them. I called them and told them so too.

Yep, the original Dyson was a beast the new ones not so much sad really but that is because of Dyson not because it was made in China, they can do just as good of a job as the earlier ones but in the pursuit of larger margins, some things are sacrificed.

Absolutely agree @Bertotti things ain't bad just because they are made in the Far East. In the UK we dismissed the Japanese as unable to build anything that wasn't junk back in the sixties and so we didn't see them as a threat then our Motorcycle and Car industry started to lose the battle. Triumph motorcycles dismissed the legendary Honda CB750 when they tested one and the chain snapped after a relatively small number of miles on their test rig. This said nothing about Honda as they didn't make the chain and it's failure didn't mean anything as to the quality of the machine. The worst thing you can be in business, like war, is complacent of the enemy and dismissive of their abilities.

Most of the real bad products I have seen come out of the Far East are those commissioned 'down to a price' by Western brands in pursuit of big profits.

No that's not what I said at all.
But it would be nice for the makers to come up with new designs instead of recreating 60 year old designs by Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, etc.
Keyboard designers come up with new things all the time.
Don't guitar makers have any imagination?
Maybe not or maybe it's just easier for them to steal.

You must not have seen one of their Gibson ripoffs, or heard their Shure & Sennheiser microphone ripoffs. The Chinese are not inventors - they are copiers and do a pretty bad job at it most of the time unless they are trained by the owners of the property.
Their steel products are inferior to what is made in the US & Germany (too many impurities). I've been cursing their nails and screws and other hardware for years.
Of coarse we won't wake up until bridges collapse.

This has all happened before in my lifetime.
In the mid to late 90’s you weren’t supposed to open doors, give compliments, or flirt with women either.
I vividly remember tuning into a TV show called “The Man Show” with Adam Corolla and Jimmy Kimmel In 1999. There was a skit based entirely on women in bikinis jumping on a trampoline. It seemed shocking in that Puritan atmosphere of the times.
Next thing I know pop culture is all about strippers and porn stars for the next 10 years. Augmentation and pole dancing were all the rage.
These Falcon pics are from the tail end (ahem) of that era.
Women are biologically created to be admired and men to admire.
    The pendulum will swing again.

Well the Japanese were copyists at one time too and they got pretty good at it. To suggest also that the Chinese "need to be trained by others" in order to do a good job is not a very wise position to take and is the very view the British manufacturing industry took of Japan until they killed our industries. No I haven't personally seen one of those 'knock-off' Gibsons and I wouldn't be surprised if they are pretty much the kind of product you would expect for such a tiny amount of money given that a Far Eastern produced 'top line' instrument starts at a fair few hundred pounds/dollars/euros. On the other hand I have seen a number of reviews on YouTube being very critical of the quality of the Genuine article.

My point of view is that, if we want to criticise them then we have to prove that we can do it better for less, until then we can't be surprised if they continue to prosper.

well ya, women were also created to be admired by other women, and men by other men as well. I guess I need the
    shirtless percussion man pedal too.

We’ll...If you’re saying men and women on average have the same desire to be physically attractive I would say you are not a very astute observer of human behavior.

I will wade in here on an unrelated but related story. My brother in law and I were looking for a gas grill at the same time. I found a local hardware store that sold Weber gas grills, made in the US. No offense to our many friends across the pond. I paid $700.00 for it in 2004-05?! He bought a $350.00 Chinese grill. He ended up replacing the Burner tubes and other parts to the tune of $200.00. It eventually rusted out and he had to buy another grill 4-5 years later. I have in the last 15 years spent $35.00 total in parts. A new igniter was it! The copper finish over stainless is guaranteed for life! So sometimes you just have to bite the bullet (or as Tavo wisely mentioned "Delayed Gratification"), spend your hard earned money on quality. In the long run you will end up ahead....

My Chinese Pro Jet kicks ass. Just sayin.....and i do believe my Johnson and Regal Dobro's are from there too and they are excellent instruments. The Chinese have been making musical instruments far longer than there has been a US and A.
And i know that isn't what this thread is about but i see some generalizations about the Chinese people's craftsmanship and gotta say humbug.
