Thought i would show some pics of my latest build since I am trying something new, but still giving it that Gretsch flavour I love so much. This is my first double bound tele, but also a first is the purfling. At work we carry Sigma guitars which are Martin copies, pretty decent ones too, and theres the model with the ivoroid binding and herringbone purfling which looks pretty badass so thought i would give it a go. So its a one piece ash body chambered with maple top, double ivoroid binding with bound cats eye, and purfling on the top. Heres where I am at so far. I always make such a mess when doing binding!

Very nice work! I love that herringbone purfling as much as the Rickenbacker checkerboard version. I'd like to see this on more guitars. I'm also very partial to single cats-eye guitars.

Thanks guys! Il get started on the neck in a few days, i have a niece piece of curly maple and a rosewood fretboard blank but im kinda feeling ebony on this build so I will think on that for a couple days. Either way it will have thumbnail inlays.

Thanks dude! I did the binding first, then used the stewmac purfling attachment for dremel to route the purf channel, then slowy with a heat gun i bent and inlayed the herringbone into the channel. Then used ca to keep it there. NOT EASY! Very hard to get the channel perfect but it turned out nice, next time i would prob do a double stepped binding route to accomodate the purfling. Il post some more progress pics.

So the body is almost done now, need to touch up a few spots. Started the neck, got the truss rod slot routed and neck pocket nice and snug. The rosewood fretboad blank i have is warped so im goin to get another maybe on mon or tues.
