My old band ended with The Velvet Underground’s Sister Ray a few times. Our version didn’t quite hit the 17 minute mark though.

We have a local band (I take a lot of local band photos for free) who finished a few of their sets with Wild Cherry's Play that Funky Music which had everyone grooving at the same time and left everyone in a great upbeat mood by the end of their set.

My band has been closing with "Twist and Shout" since its inception 13 years ago. I think the band I was with for a couple of years before that did too.

The band formed in '72 if that helps. They go their name from a gang of street kids in Nova Express by William S. Burroughs.

That’s awesome. That’s the first song that ever got me rabid for rock n’ roll when I was a little little kid. Still one of my top 5 favorite songs. Always wanted to cover it.

That's more like it, can't fault you there!
Great stuff - we played the letter too but in the Box Tops version so not suitable as a closer!

We end the evening with either Link Wray's Rumble or Rawhide or Dick Dale's The Wedge.

As far as covers go, one of my bands often closes the show with "The Kids Are Alright"-- feedback, drum break and all.

We also close with "(What's So Funny About) Peace, Love and Understanding", and sometimes "Please Don't Touch".

More often, we'll close with an original tune.

The Kids Are Alright was a song on the Who's first album but subsequently nearly all versions on tape and later CD had the solo cut by half and was missing the feedback and Keith's drum break. Most frustrating when that was the best bit! I understand it was as a result of American recording companies thinking the feedback was a mistake that needed to be removed. I think a similar fate awaited their second single Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere which also has an extended solo with drum break and feedback. Townshend and Moony really let fly in the solos in both songs and I love 'em both for just that reason.

I don't think anyone ends a show quite like The Killer!
