I was having one of those (all too rare) idle moments and found myself pondering what the best songs to end a gig on are. Here's my opening gambit; We Gotta Go by Heavy Metal Kids (1974). They are a much overlooked band fronted by the talented and missed Gary Holton.

    And the floor is open...

AC/DC "You Shook Me All Night Long". You have to play it last because:
    (a) How can you follow that?
    (b) It's exactly what most of your audience is thinking about.

Never heard of the Heavy Metal Kids. They remind me of Mott The Hoople, very nice!

We usually end with our version of Kiki Dee's I Got The Music In Me, starting rather quiet, we're building it up and come to a powerful end.

    Hi @Floo

I'd definitely recommend checking them out. Their first album, Heavy Metal Kids, is one of the unsung greats. Some kind soul has even uploaded it to you tube for us all to have the pleasure of.

We used to finish with an extended version of Satisfaction with each musician (I use the term loosely) doing their own solo routine.
Of course then came the encores, the last song of which could be absolutely anything in our repertoire or even one we wanted to try out and used the excuse for a paid rehearsal!

    A man with class!
But I think you'll find the name of the song is Baba O'Riley.
I know, I know, nobody likes a smart ass, and it's still a class gig closer regardless of how you introduce the song!

The Cocker version is a wise choice since the original by the Box Tops was only 1 minute 50 seconds in length which is perhaps a tad short for a closer!

    Tell me about it!
I'll be 70 on Good Friday and am celebrating on board a cruise ship in the Med.
With a bit of luck I'll get lost in Barcelona or Lisbon and not make it back to the ship.
Either city will do 'cause I love 'em both and I'll claim amnesia, see if they'll put me up for a month or two. LOL

We use to end the show with American Woman, Helter Skelter, Jump Into The Fire, and a rock and roll medley we put together. It would always go over well and people would be singing as they left the club.
These days we end with one of our originals that became popular with our fan base. It's cool to hear people singing one of your songs at the end of the night.

We usually end our sets with our punk rockabilly version of Waylon’s “Only Daddy that’ll Walk the Line”.
We’ve done “Keep a’ Knockin” a few times at the end. That’s a fun one.
