Very nice resto! Did you treat the leather with any oil or conditioner?

Not really. Not yet. I cleaned it with a little paint thinner (mineral spirits) and Naptha to get paint and grime off of it. I plan on treating it with something like Neatsfoot oil.

The pickguard was hacked up and painted black. I repaired a chunk that was cut out near the controls to allow for an extra knob. And it was missing the tip. So I made a new piece from a similar guard and glued it on.

Here is the headstock transformation. Original 55 neck with square truss rod should have a narrow opening. The 58/59 overlay had a large opening from the more modern truss rod. So I had to add/graft wood to make it more 55 appropriate.

Really nice work!! I would recommend Bick-4 leather cleaner and conditioner. It wont darken the leather and it is better as an oil than neatsfoot.
