Haven't started on it yet, might be a few weeks as I actually have some builds to do first.

But it's a replica of Mr. Simmons LoBue. It's difficult to find exact info about it, so if anyone has a drawing laying around....

Is that THE Lobue in the pic or some kind of tribute build?

I don't really know KISS but that is a cool bass. Kinda jet-ish.

Not really, when they were popular here, their exposure was limited in the UK (which is where I was at the time). I remember they were in an unwatchable movie once and they did a 'guest' appearance on some US based crime show, don't remember which but that was about it.

It's the 'real' one, it was screwed with a lot over the time he used it.

    I've been researching :D

In the original configuration, the break angle was insufficient between the tailpiece and the bridge, and we know what happens then:

It was switched out for a Fender bridge which cured that.

    And then the chrome cover...

Probably to stop him from tearing up his hand on the fender bridge.

There are more iterations of the same thing but the middle one here is what we're going for. Not going to use a Fender bridge, hoping to use a Schaller roller bridge with adjustable spacing since the mudbucker has poles too wide to be that close to a regular bridge.
It's a 30" scale, so it's smaller than it looks.

Interesting string arrangement in the first pic.

Yeah, knocking them out of the saddles, poor initial design.

That`s a mighty cool bass. I am a Kiss fan since my childhood and loved their guitardesigns.
    This one is really special.
I hope that it will turn out to be a fun-project.

Is that documented? I thought he might have gone for a two course effect like on the 8 string Hagstroms.

I know he's not known as a bass virtuoso but a two string (defacto)bass would be kinda limiting. It is for sure why this configuration only lasted a short while.

I am so curious: What is the story behind this build? Did a customer ask for it? Please tell us, David.

Going with the Schaller roller to get the strings over the pole pieces.
