Are Bigbsys essential for rockabilly?

For rockabilly? To me, no, not even a little bit. Vibratos are for surf and assorted instrumental material. At least that's all I use mine for. I can't think of any classic rockabilly that prominently features a Bigsby (having said that, I fully expect to be proven wrong). If it weren't for the occasional Ventures/Shadows/etc. songs that I play with my band, I think I might actually prefer a hard tail or trapeze.

Every kind of music sounds better with a Bigsby :)

Is having a tremolo essential to playing guitar?

    Well, there you go!

Also if you've got a slim line double cut, they really help to avoid neck dive! Hi my name is Morgan and I too like to have a Bigsby on guitars, even though I can't really use them.

Rockabilly to me is about a certain feeling and sound. And sure Bigsby’s are fun and required for a few certain songs, but not it’s not needed to play as a whole.

I had no idea his son was on here. The Trio was and still is one of my all time favorites to listen to. Sooo many great songs and what are now classics.

Well, there you go. Eddie Cochran. The exception that proves the rule. Out of the multitudes of rockabilly guitarist (original era), he's about the only one that made use of a Bigsby.
Is "Rumble" rockabilly? I guess I've never thought of it that way.

I wouldn’t consider Rumble a rockabilly song. It’s probably more a blues number, but really it transcends all space and time. It’s as powerful as the elements.

This is a very compelling argument, and I find it to be true. If you can play, you don't need a specific guitar to play well and vice versa.

Well, I don't consider Bigsby really essential for rockabilly sound (I think at 50's rockabilly masterpieces played with Tele or Gibson without Bigsby) but for sure Bigsby is totally cool!!!

Bigsby vibratos are essential to me, but to rockabilly, nah..
