For anyone who has swapped out their Bigsby for a G-tail on their Electromatic, can you tell me what that entailed? Before and after pics would be appreciated, if you have them...

    Thank you!

That's a cool thought Larry . Don't thing I've ever seen someone put a G-Tail on there Electromatic . Seems folks always upgraded their Bigsby's , as the norm .
This'll be interested and bet it would look sharp too

I know our old member Darko used to always swap his Bigsbys for G's off his prolines....

I'm considering this as well with my 5230 with a chrome finish, I personally like the G-tail on gretsches on some models over a bigsby seeing as I'm not a bit trem user, would prefer them then the v stops that are coming on the new jet models now.

IMG_3847.JPG IMG_3932.JPG Yep. The before is the same model and colour, but just off the net as I don't have one handy of mine. The after is still a work in progress..

    Nice...
Guess I should have been more specific in my initial post; wondering what the swap would entail on a Gretsch hollowbody?

Don't have a before pic but here are two that I modded. A 5445 and a 5655. Also added a zero fret to the 5655. Right now the 5655 is my one and only!

Preparing to mod the Rat Rod before its arrival? If that's the case your only issue might be the depth of the hinge part of the G tail since the body is 1/4" thinner. You might have to cut the hinge down a little. I'll be doing that in the next few weeks adding a G tail to a Jr Jet. Wait for the professional modders to help but I think (hope) it's an easy change. A couple new screw holes and BAM.

These RED Electros are only 1.75 thick...and the hinge fits. I am assuming it is the same G-Tail piece...don't you think?

Yep it will for sure if you're 1.75. 3 sizes of Electros ( full , semi, and solid) so I didn't know which one. I put up a thread about the depth for mine and the response I got from uber qualified people was the hinge was 1.75. My Jet is only 1.5 hence my need to cut it.

I have a couple pre FMIC Jrs which are 1/4" thinner than their modern counterparts which are 1.75 so their tail pieces works without modification.

I did nothing to either. Removed the Bigsby, used the existing 'button' hole to mount the 'G' and drilled three small holes for the screws.

I believe they made a smaller version for Jets and a larger one for hollow bodies.

I like this mod. I have considered it a couple times.

However I'll just throw this out there: I don't understand why some people leave the screw holes as is. I always thought an easy solution would be to fill the body with a tootpick wood and wood glue just under the finish level and then find a matching nail polish to get the finish at the very least close using a few coats.
