I got this used and it did need a bit of attention - straightened the neck, lowered the bridge and skimmed the frets. Very light, has a boxy tone all of it's own (by no means bad) great fun and an easy pickup and go instrument. Appearance causes comments and thankfully it doesn't try to look like a Martin copy.
What's the origin of the name Jim Dandy?

    New Yorker Archtop.

Quite a big neck, thick top and tiny frets. Mine didn't come with the DeArmond Rhythm Chief pickup so I got the repro from Guild. Probably the best add-on magnetic pickup I've used - the only one I've come across that is designed and perfectly balanced for bronze strings. Strange construction with different sized button magnets and the coil doubled on the bronzed strings for matching output. Classic forties jazz tone.

Been meaning to look at a Jim Dandy. Ultra cheap, great for a beater.

All of it---there were four different versions. The Jim Dandy seems like it's basically the same, but without the western motif.

Love that Synchromatic - such style. And Yeah - those Cowboy guitars - I can see where the Dandy comes from.

Did Gretsch ever offer any prints(posters) with these designs? I would collect the whole series if they would.

Not that I am aware of. These were only offered for a limited time in 2006-2007. Even so, they were still available as NOS (new, old stock) through 2008.

However, Here are the trade/advertisement images for the series:

Amazing/cute box art on those Americanas. Never seen those before.
I'd snap up a 'Way out west!' given the chance. The flying cattle make it a winner.
