Am I just being sensitive or would you have the same reaction?

They are Advertised with GOTOH. At least that is what I read on the Ads. Maybe he got a later Model /Year.

I agree, and they should pay for shipping. You have a right to be annoyed if course, it if it is annoying just return it. Annoyance solved. Sometimes people mess up - maybe some intern mistakenly copied and pasted. If they give all your money back, then I think it addresses the issue.

Maybe they'll do that but I doubt it. If they offer a return, they've done their job.

Just to confirm, the specific guitar you bought was advertised with schallers, by the seller? You cant rely on other ads.

Schaller Locking M6 Machine Heads are still made in Germany. Not China.

I have seen them advertised with Gotoh's. Maybe those were the older ones.

Do the Schallers and Gotohs have the same mounting holes if they do send you some?

If the guitar is not as advertised, Sweetwater will take it back on their dime. They may chose to send you the different tuners but that actually is their call.

I purchased many items from Sweetwater including amps and returned items with no problem whatsoever.

Best of luck with the transaction.

Wrench6, I understand your dilemma. The guitar is nice, but it's just not quite the guitar you expected. Further, should you ever sell it, will the buyer expect to receive a guitar with Schaller locking tuner? After all, the specs say Schaller, not Gotoh.

It's not quite an equivalent, but about 5 months back I bought a Pro Jet. It was black, gorgeous, felt great, and played well. When I got it home, I noticed a few small scratches, and a couple of dings. I called GC and took the guitar back. They offered to reduce the price to reflect the minor damage, but I put down money to receive a brand new guitar. If I wanted one that was "used," I could have done that elsewhere. I did get my new Pro Jet, just not that one.

Well, you’re asking if you are being sensitive, and I think you are. But the contrary opinions don’t matter, it’s all about your purchase and your satisfaction with it. You clearly are not satisfied and it’s pretty reasonable to send it back or get some new tuners installed at an authorized dealer. I think Gotoh makes splendid tuners, nothing “cheap” about them, and the guitar is already made in Japan. Can’t ignore that FMIC takes steps to cover change ups like this—legal sidestepping maybe, but it happens.

It sucks, you paid primo for that gem so get your guy to make it right. I’d just tune it up and play :)

Gotoh rocks - they make great stuff. I like the finish and feel of the Gotohs perhaps more than I do the Schallers. However, Gotoh are less expensive than Schaller, so you're about about $35. Me? I'd be happy that it has Gotoh and be smiling all the way. But if you're unhappy, they'll take care of you.

    As stated before:
I'm not returning the guitar. And after some investigation, the Schaller and the Gotoh are not interchangeable. However, that's not an issue. Again, the quoted above explains it, succinctly.

We spend the money that we spend on the things that we want, exactly how we want them. If you ordered a new truck with certain wheels and it arrived with wheels that you didn't order or expect to get, would you not be a bit miffed?

    Of course you would.

As for my Sweetwater guy. I've covered that as well. We're friends and I've bought multiple guitars, amps, and accessories through him. There's none better, in my opinion.

He went heavy to bat for me for a JCS V that I'm having built when they flat out said that they wouldn't build it (with no explanation given for the refusal). They're building the guitar.

It seems entirely appropriate to me to ask for some kind of remediation if you're unhappy when what you receive is not what was sold to you regardless of what fine print the lawyers at the manufacturer or retailer have hidden in plain sight, especially on a purchase at that level.

Being overly sensitive to me would be to let it piss you off and sour you on the guitar and otherwise stress you out unduly. Doesn't sound like that's where you're at so you're in a good place in my view.

I think the replacement Schallers is the route I'd be pursuing myself too. I've never dealt w/ Sweetwater personally but I don't think I've heard a negative comment about their customer service so I'd think there's a good chance they at least try to help you out at some level.

In the interest of clarity and not seeming like I'm trying to bag on Gotohs, the few sets of the particular Gotohs I think we're talking about that I have tried out on new Gretsches coming through the shop have seemed quality and probably perfectly serviceable I just think most of the actual German made Schaller machines I've used have felt better, a bit more consistent, and even better quality and seem more appropriate (if potentially less eco-friendly than the locally sourced Gotohs) to the price tag on the guitar to me than the Gotohs.

My Players edition has Gotoh. They work perfectly. Weird how on Gretsch site it says both Gotoh and Schaller.

Gretschguitars.com lists the Setzer signature model, which is what I have, with Schaller M6 Lockers.

The sweetwater ssu I found says schaller - dodsnt matter what gretsch or GC website says, you didn't buy it from them - so they advertised it wrong. Have you decided what you want to remedy this?

Schaller was the **** in he ‘80s, but the top of the line Gotohs are just as good and possibly even made to tighter tolerances. And yes, they are cheaper too.
