Found this for a great price and took a chance. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed for what it is. Came with Slinky 10's on it and sounded like someone put strings on a garbage can lol. Put some flat wound 11's on it and what a difference! Sounds good acoustic but sounds great plugged in. I'm not a jazz player but it's easy to get some good blues and country sounds out of it. Looking forward to delving deeper into it over the weekend. 20200214_160506.jpg

    Congratulations for your G9555 New-Yorker @Beardog ! ;)

I have her predecessor the Synchromatic G100 (bought new in 2008), that I converted to LH dexterity and finally added a custom Lefty modified "Monkey-On-A-Stick" pickup (Kent Armstrong rewound) :

AFAIK, the G9555 and the G100 are built the same : 3-ply laminated spruce top, parallel tone bars, deeply arched top and back, no soundpost between them.

They are underrated guitars, with a great Jazz tone...

    A+!

    Love it, Congrats!
I have always been interested in these...Does it feel/play.. more like an acoustic or an electric?

It leans more to the acoustic side but to be honest its in some sort of weird middle ground if that makes any kind of sense

Hey Beardog: it's nice to see the New Yorker getting some love. I have one- it was the first electric guitar that I got- and even though I have a 6120 nd some other toys, there are still days when I love the woody tone I get out of the New Yorker the most. I have flat wounds on mine too, and I like them. I usually play my New Yorker acoustic, because it's convenient, but I love the rich, plugged in tone. I play a lot of fingerpicking guitar and the wider neck suits that style of playing. The fat neck feels good too. And the guitar is beautiful. I'm a big fan.

Hey Andrew I know what you mean about it's acoustic qualities. Have you ever tried it with acoustic bronze strings?
