I'm very fortunate to have access to a good number of Gretsch guitars. Between myself and my Dad, we have about 15 to choose from, but I always find myself coming back to this one... I'm not sure whether it's the Dynasonics I love, the deeper body, the brass nut or the Tru-Arc bridge - There's just something about this one that's just right. We spotted this one on a Facebook sale and immediately wanted it. Turns out, the guy selling it plays with a great U.K Band called 'The Blazin' Aces'. We've gone to become great friends and have done a couple of joint gigs with both bands playing together - all because of this guitar. Anyway, I had a quiet afternoon so I thought I'd get her out and have a play...

I saw Guy gig with this one a couple of times with the Aces. They be local Essex boys froo an' froo. I saw them about a month ago, and Guy has moved on to a Falcon, a pressie from his bird.

That's the guy! I was at his house last week playing that very Falcon - They're all great guys :) We bought this off him in October last year and it's been to every gig since with me.

Here we go, Me in white stood next to Billy, the former owner next to me :)

I played with Big T a couple of times in another band. His Mrs, Tracy makes the most amazing cakes!

Big Dog Kev on the far right, is the most laid back dude in the universe. I sold him a 5120 with Filtertrons a few years ago, but he mainly plays a Guild now.

Indeed - The night that photo was taken, I got up with the Aces for a couple of tracks playing Kev's Guild. Problem was, they didn't tell me that was the plan and I'd already had more than my fair share before we got to the pub!

Very nice playing, Rob. And what a sweetheart of a GreTsch. My guess is the body, nut and bridge really bring out the Dynas. Is it yours or your Dads?

Legally? It's my Dad's :D He's owned it for nearly 12 months now and it's probably spent a whole 2 weeks at his house, though! We're quite lucky sharing a lot of the same interests so several of his guitars are here at my house and vice versa :) It's funny really - my Dad had always wanted a Duane Eddy model and about 2 weeks before this came up, I'd said I was looking for a black 6120 with Dynasonics and gold hardware. Perfect combination really. It's just one of those guitars that's just right. I love it. I used it for pretty much all the lead work on the new album :)

Well, the guitar is great and all, but I'm still most jealous about the fact that you get to drape yourself all over a Spitfire Mk 1.

I am extremely fortunate to be able to get involved with those aircraft - Just a case of knowing the right people and being in the right place at the right time. I was just giving the guys a hand with the Mk Is - I was crewing the Mk Vc for the weekend this year :)

I spent my day today working with my Dad on his 1943 Jeep. We're driving it to Holland in a couple of weeks for the Market Garden commemorations. Dad will be parachuting from the C-47 again and I should be on board filming - I'll be sure to post the footage up here when it's done.

Driving this thing a few hundred miles, we decided to fetch the canvas doors out of the shed and fit them. We painted the camo on this afternoon :) If the weather is good whilst we're in Holland, the sides, roof and screen will all be off.
