More comfort from Melita bridge?
Anybody got a fix for keeping the height adjustment stud on the bass side from digging into the heel of my hand?
A fix that does not involve permanently altering a vintage part.

You could always take the bridge off, put a Compton bridge on, and keep the original bridge so you have the original part should you decide to sell the guitar at a later date.
Plus, if you then sell the Compton, you'll get most of your money back - all if it if you buy a used one.
Good luck

Buy an ebony base and slap a compton on it. I hated the melita bridge.

Can you make a short version from a modified screw? ie one that matches the thread and thickness but just cut at both ends to be only the height you need and then rounded at one end? Then you could set the original aside if you ever need to sell. I've cut the posts of many a floating bridge without issue.

The melita bridge base was a sloppy fit on my guitar with the previous owner. The thing would move all over the place. There are scratches all over from it. First thing I did was order an ebony base from Darren Riley and slap a Ti/TC Compton on it. Not only was the bridge stable, sustain improved 1000%.

I like the heavy, overisized Melitas, but I haven't figured out what to do with the studs. I have replaced only the original screws on the top, with round head Phillips screws, but I couldn't find them in gold...
I asked Mr Compton once if the CC bridges will be made for Melita's base, his answer was that they had no plans to produce them.

Interesting that a metric nut would fit a US bolt. I wouldn't have thought so.

Hey, good that you mentioned Knavel!
Charlie, it's Ø 5 mm nut! Sorry, don't know why I wrote 6.
Melitas posts are 4.8 mm, that's why 5 mm nut fits nicely.

I hated the Melita bridge! And to add insult to injury, I found that the bakelite base was stuck to the guitar body with a big gob of silicone seal under each side of the base.
Toss that tone-suckin POS, get a > rosewood< or > ebony< base from Darren Riley, slip a sweet titanium Compton bridge under your strings, and find out what your guitar really sounds like!

The thread pitch would be different.
Maybe a 5mm would fit an Asian Gretsch...I don't know how long it's been since they were made in the US, but mine was born in Brooklyn...just like Mom and Dad.
I'll find the right size...that's a minor detail.
The big news is the idea of the acorn nut.
Sweet.
