B6 vs. V-Bigsby... differences?
Hi guys... looking for some wisdom here. I'm aware of the various iterations that the Bigsby went through with early Gretsch 6120's. There was the anodized aluminum with fixed-arm (spoon handle), then the black enamel faced with breakaway handle, and finally the swivel handle B6 vibrato (circa '57). My question is this last version... how is it different from the later V-cut Bigsby, relative to construction (material, hinges, handles, etc). Any Bigsby gurus out there? Thanks!

I don't think that there is any functional difference.

Functionally no... but construction-wise perhaps. I've heard that the earlier models were cast aluminum, and then later one's possess rolled steel handles. I just don't quite know what all that means.

I'm certain the bodies are cast aluminum on both. Handles are another matter all together, as much religion and philosophy as anything else.

To all of my G-T friends, meet J Osowsky, one of the truly great Rockabilly cats by night and a helluva engineer by day.
