Probably not... but you could go to a place that sells vintage motorcycle parts... I understand that the spring that Bigsby used was a valve spring off of a motorcycle engine. Not sure what make or year though.

It'd be easier just to buy one. Guitar parts resource has 'em. You can usually get them on eBay too.

I know I was trying to avoid having to order one. And just walk into a store and be able to buy one.

I usually try to keep a spare or two around.

Make it easy on yourself and just order one from Blackrider or GuitarPartsResource. Even if you find one thats approximately the right size, what are the odds that the tension will be the same?
If you want to fix it from the hardware store, you might just try buying some washers to put in there to raise up your current spring 7/8th spring (assuming this is for your 5120).

I second the call to Blackrider. I've bought 1" springs from them in the past...dirt cheap. You'll pay more for shipping than you will for the spring, but you still come out in good shape.

Noel, wouldn't you think that Chicago Music Exchange carries them?? I know you're on the west side of Chicagoland, but surely there's got to be someone in the area that stocks them.

They just might, I have only been there once, and might say I was floored by the selection of Vintage Gretsch's...

That's the outfit I buy mine from. They also usually have them in chrome or gold.
