Default Gretsch guitars in unlikely situations/styles

I was curious if anyone can post videos where a gretsch seems out of place from it's standard calm & plunky Surfy-Country twang style?

I have to admit, I have heard the band name Depeche Mode a million times in my life, by I never knew it was a Gretschy band!

Marylin Manson's band also covering the same song with a Gretsch! (Half moon inlays and square nameplate on headstock, couldn't make out the model)

The White Stripes also rocked an original vintage Gretsch White Penguin(!?!?) in the music video "Icky Thump".

Post up more Gretsches in unlikely situations please.

This thread has a Placebo deficiency

Not their best songs, but double Gretschiness:

I'm at work right now so I can't post (or view for that matter) any videos but, IIRC, Dave Grohl plays a White Falcon in the Foo Fighters "Monkey Wrench" video. I'll have a look later.

I saw Steve Hunter toting a Corvette during the last Alice Cooper tour. Not as spectacular as seeing him with a hollow body I suppose, but still surprising given the setting...

Nick 13 of Tiger Army is a Gretsch endorsee.

Foo Fighters with Serj Tankian from System of a Down doing a cover of the Dead Kennedy's "Holiday in Cambodia" at the 2007 MTV VMAs. Silver Phoenix, anyone?

Yup, White Falcon. Knew I loved the Foo Fighters for a reason.

Interesting to see Gahan channeling his inner-Mick Jagger... also interesting to see the old blacktops... Seems like everyone plays HS Filters, TVJs, or Dynas... I liked the edgy, blues-y distorted sound, actually...

I never though of Malcolm Young as a "standard calm & plunky Surfy-Country twang style" player.

Yeah, or Reverend Horton Heat, or The Living End, or Tim Armstrong from Rancid, or about half the Gretsch-sponsored artists, for that matter...

Sometimes I use my DeArmond 2000's for playing Pantera for the novelty of playing Pantera on a fully hollow. the 2000's have the right EQ, and pretty decent breakup/crunch driving the right amp for it. It's funny, but I have guitars more suited for playing w/ trem for that style so I generally use those.

Sylvain Sylvain of the New York Dolls played a White Falcon.

Not sure why you'd consider Jack White an "unlikely" situation.

He probably owns more Gretschs than anyone on this board.

He's also had custom not-Gretsches made by Randy Parsons. (ref: http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin...rs.aspx?Page=3)

He also owns a Diddy-Bo Penguin which he's played with Dead Weather on tour:

Or maybe the custom Anniversary w/a Green Bullet installed inside of it (a la Randy Parsons, too):

Of course, there's always the King of All Jets, the Triple Jet (and yes, that's an actual COPPER top) again, via Randy Parsons:

Just sayin'.

I don't understand this topic at all. A Gretsch guitar in the hands of rock musician is as good as any other. It is like saying a piano should only be used for classical music and the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and many others are something of an "unusual situation".

Isn't that guy, Tim Armstrong one of those "unusuals", yet Gretsch gave him a sig model?

Rant off!

Billy Zoom of the seminal Punk band "X" also has a signature model Gretsch... and I'm pretty sure we hear a Gretsch in a lot of The Dead Kennedys (particularly sounds like one in the DK's original "Holiday in Cambodia").

I'm fairly certain that those artists were an unusual situation in their time. Unusual doesn't mean bad, just not what you would typically expect
