I've dabbled on a couple of occasions with chord melody when I was in the Jimmy Bruno online academy but recently my focus has all been on thumb-picking as I try and stay focussed on something I'm good at (or okay at!). But I thought it would be nice to have a tune or two that moves away from the alternating bass in my set (I don't have a set, I don't have any acoustic gigs, but if I did, I think it would be nice to have a tune or two that moves away from the alternating bass...). So here's my version of Barry Galbraith's arrangement of For All We Know:
Kind regards,
Derek

Nice. I am just about to send in my first video to the jimmy bruno school, on the 5 fingerings. So far so good, but i wish I could have him here at nights when I practice, got so many questions.

The JB school is great, as is his method. I still practice the 5 fingerings and all the arps quite regularly (although not daily as I once did). I miss the place, but have so much stuff to work on from the year I was there that I figured I'd try and master some of that stuff before maybe rejoining one day. The fact that this planned hiatus coincided with my own unplanned personal recession seemed like a sign from above that I was making a wise decision.
I don't want to overload this place with my own videos (non Gretsch videos, at that) but here's one of my submissions to JB. This was the first time that I felt confident in playing over changes that were (slightly) more complex than I-IV-V. It still doesn't sound jazzy to me, but that will come when I get enough transcriptions under my fingers.
