Dynas in a 5120 - Help!
Hi folks. I need your advice. I just bout a lovely pair of Dynas from GT member Johnny Guitar (thanks Johnny, nice meeting you) and I want to put them into a 5120 I have. I looked for info through the site search and came up with very little regarding anyone actually doing this.
Is it doable or am I breaking new ground here? If anyone has any experience or wisdom to add please let me know. Thanks.

Hello Tony, Dynas are surface mounted, as I'm sure you already know?
So you will need some kind of mounting plate to sit them on and hide any hole from the previous pickups.
Someone else may have a better Idea on this though.

Setzer sells some of those very plates. Google "setzer signs" or look for user "setzer"

On the Gretsch Pages forum, Bear mounted some Dyna 2000s on his 5120 using some Setzer supplied adapters. You might contact him. Good luck, I think you'll be very happy with the mod.

I'll be putting T-Armonds into a friend's T-rose here in the next week or 2 with some of Setzer's mounting pieces. I'll be sure to post tons of pics

Yer funny. I'd be willing to sell them... at a $100 each. (just kidding)
But honestly, you wouldn't like them anyway. You know, they're nothing at all like a Gretschbucker and their sound is so... so... you know... like Gretschy. All that twang and stuff, you'd probably hate them anyway. I'm actually doing you a favour here, that's what friends are for.

Liz, where did you get Mr. Setzer's contact info? Are the T-Armonds the same footprint as the Dynas?

The same footprint. You can even swap the housings between T-Armond, Dynas and DeArmond 2000s or 2k.

Thanks 6stings, that's very helpful. When I pull the guitar apart I'll take some pics and post them here. There isn't a time rush as I have a Jet with dynas and a 5129 with DeArmonds.
