I was hoping you'd show up in here & give me your take on things I know you've got one, I drool over it frequently - those pics in the Jet Group are what fueled this thread, and my GAS..

Anyways, the main reason I posted it was because... on the topic of this thread, it had the pickups being discussed and was in fact a Jet and, as we all know, is Taras guitar of choice.

I really appreciated the video, I heard exactly what I wanted to hear (from the guitar) ...we're just having fun knocking the tryhard behind the guitar - not your fault at all, in fact, it's added some extra entertainment

There's just too many good fair dealers out there and you don't have to put up with the nonsense.
Truthfully while watching the vid I'm checking out the guitar the whole time and ignoring the sideshow. I have no doubt that he's a talent and I don't doubt he's having fun! There's just days I don't need to see it!

The reason for my complaint was simply Fretted Americana's penchant for holding guitars hostage. Who's gonna pay their prices for one of their guitars? Nobody in their right mind.
And the dude giving the demo was just icing on the cake.

I actually like Phil X, though I have to take him in small doses. No question that he's a really good player. I enjoy the tones and those videos are making me want a vintage Magnatone!!!
Still, like many vintage dealers out there these guys are asking pretty steep prices. I wonder though, if you tried to haggle with them if they would come down some?
Who knows, but in my case at least the vintage stuff is out of my price range and I'd be really reluctant to gig with something that I had that much of an investment in.

i've compared the dynos on my jet to all the new ones [single coils], no compition.
the originals, more output, clearer, and a much better tone range.
that is the main reason , i have never gone newer.these pups are irreplaceable.

Absolutely agreed! I don't think anyone really questions that. What I do question tho is it worth 400+ bucks for the tone by swapping out for SD's. They're good in fact that sound great but $400+ better I don't hear it yet others do. I think I'd rather take that 400+ and whatever it would take to put in a pair of the originals. I'll continue to hold out to see what TV Jones has to offer.

Agreed. I have always found Duncans to be way too dark for my liking. All of his pickups are that way (to me). I'm cool with the sound I am getting from my stock Dynas for now, but I might try a set of TVs if the price were okay.

Same here. The stock FMIC Dyna's on my DSW are fine for what I want to do.
I can dial them in to where they sound good. That's all I need.
If I hit the right notes, they will come out of the amplifier just fine.
I'm sure if I A/B's them with the latest version of the lastest wisdom in Dyna lore I'd be disappointed, so I don't!

Roger that. But they are sensitive aren't they? I mean, I had to adjust the nut in my Bigsby arm because it was too tight, so like a fool I took all the strings off my guitar. I put them back on and realized that I hadn't measured where they were before, so I had to set everything up again.
OF COURSE, now I have to go back and adjust the Dynas because they are not where they need to be.
I always thought it was funny that they called the Filtertrons "High Sensitivity", because it seems that no matter where I set them they sound awesome. Not so with the Dynas, LOL! Sometimes, all it takes is a quarter turn on the adjustment and you are back in happyland.
Gotta love it!!

OK...so here's the big question...because I was recently in a rehearsal room with an old Gretsch with Dearmonds, and the tone brought me to my KNEES!
THAT'S the tone...that green Duo Jet.
Are pickups that sound like that available?
Can I put them in a cheapie (relatively) Electromatic and get that tone?
If so, I'm breakin' open the piggy bank!!

Too bad you couldn't just yank those pup's and give them to Seymour. He could analyze them and wind/build up a copy. The SD's can be wound to any spec. It's just trying to find what spec. sounds best.

Seymour makes DeArmond-type pickups?
I'll have to check his site.
TV sez he's working on them, and he has a pretty damn good track record with this Gretsch stuff!

Seymour Duncan makes the pickups for the current Gibson Duane Eddy model as well as the US Custom Shop Gretsch G6120CSW.

They also make P9Os in filtertron casings.
If TV cracks that particular nut, I'm as good as in.

I'll say it again before I'd lay out that SD money you need to hear the reissues thru a Nocturne. If you find vintage at a good price jump on them but the difference between $165 and $450 is staggering!

I liked the guy - His playing was great and made the guitar sound great in a rock way. What a bunch of gassy old ladies criticizing the guy. I love hearing a cranked Gretsch thrugh a non MV amp. Sounds different than all the other tone reports where they play smoot jazz througha solid state POS.
