Guitar Tuner pedal
Hi all,
I'm not getting on with my Korg DT10. I can hear noise when the LED's are flicking around, and it's a bit vague sometimes.
I like the functionality, I can stomp on it, and it cuts the signal to the amp, so I'm looking for a possible replacement that can replicate that.
What tuner do you have on your pedal board. What's got the best reputation? I was thinking of getting a Pitchblack, but if it's noisy like the DT10, then I'll pass. I have just read that it can be the patch cable, but as the noise corresponds to the LED movement, I think the pedal is the likely culprit.
I'm not interested in a rack mount unit. any thoughts/opinions?
Cheers all
Marlin

i've got the digitech hardwire one, the ht-2 or something
it was on a sale when i bought it, got it for 60 euros instead of about 90
and i wouldn't trade it for any other one, i really like it
the leds are very clear, and it's probably more durable than a boss, definatly feels much sturdier

I've been using the Korg Pitchblack tuner for about a month now with no problems or noise. It's got true bypass, cuts the signal to the amp and is very visible. I'm happy with it.

After getting a Turbo Tuner I went back to the Boss TU-3. I had nothing but Boss in the past and had to try something different. The Boss TU-2 and TU-3 is the absolute bomb for the stage.

I have heard good reports about the PitchBlack but haven't used one. I have an old Arion on my board that works just fine. I have a Boss TU-15 that I have had for over 20 years and it works great even though the clear window got broken and lost years ago/ I guess that speaks pretty well for anything Boss.

I love the ST-200 strobe tuner. It mutes the output when engaged, it stores my favorite open tunings, it's easy to read and accurate. http://www.turbo-tuner.com/

I've had a PitchBlack for the last 3 years and I love it. Works great, no noise, accurate. Great pedal, and they can be found nice and cheaply, too.

I have a TU-2 and it's virtually worthless outdoors because the LEDs can't be seen in the sunlight.

I've though about one of these for the reasons I mentioned above.

Does the TU-3 do any better than the TU-2 outdoors?
Al that having been said, I've been using a Snark Tuner for over a year. Since it works by vibration I just turn down the master volume and go for it. In bright light situations it can be placed underneath the headstock and shielded from glare.

Why not take your guitar and patch cord to a local shop and try a bunch of pedals out? If they all make the noise, then you can pretty much guess it's your patch cable, and those are a lot cheaper to replace than the pedal is...

Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-200.
I use it with a volume pedal that has a tuner output.
On a pedal board that has no room to fit the volume pedal I split the signal from guitar, one line out to pedals one out to tuner. Tuner can then be left on.

Pitchblack all the way.
Sounds like its what you want, Silent, Signal Cutting... Only problem is depending on lighting outdoors it can be a bit of a pain to actually see it! That's the same with most tuners though so I don't think you'll get around that one.
All the best,
Dan

Another several year Pitch Black user. Simplicity itself, quiet, easy to read.

I, also, have a Korg Pitchblack tuner. I've had it for a couple of years now and no problems.

I've got a Strobostomp...its average.
I end up getting ballpark tuning with the Strobostomp then finishing by ear..
So not a great tuner for the price/reputation.

I’ve been using a Boss TU-2 (purchased from a G-T forum member!), too, but when not using my pedal board, I find myself using the TC Electronics Polytune app on my iphone. The real Polytune pedal will be the next tuner I buy.
