Without making a call on the pedal(never heard of, never tried it) but that's all it seems to take these days...
• Get a schematic of freestompboxes.com,
• Change a few resistor and capvalues,
• Goop it up to hide the evidence and add to the "mystique",
• Put it in a "customfinished" box,
• Stick on a decal with some schmart wittery play of words,
• Manage some multiple personalities on a forum to build some hype,
and away you go for your 15 minutes in Bullteek-La-la-land.

Or in the case of one unnamed pedal company: - Buy a $29 Joyo pedal
- Remove circuit from pedal and add resistor
- Put sharpie over "JOYO" markings on circuit board to cover up the evidence, and add peanut butter goop to components for "mojo"
- Put circuit in new enclosure and install new colored knobs
- Mark up price $170
- Advertise your slightly modded cheap Chinese built pedal as a USA Custom Shop build to justify price to potential buyers
- Wait for backlash once people find out what you are doing
- Use the money you made on the original pedal to change silkscreens on PC board to say your company name instead of JOYO.
- Try to sell cheap Chinese pedal as your own... again...

I read the commotion when the FB was positively identified as a Joyo OCD and assumed that would be the end of it...or rather the end of FB.
Didn't know about the last 2 plot twists...

Every major guitar and FX forum covered it. The ginormous thread on TGP(sorta the virtual home of the maker) was pulled. Possible under threat of a lawsuit. Not sure, I try to stay away from soapoperas.
This one is still there, it's not very informed but should give you a hint as to what to look for... http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/peda...e-content.html
There is really good one on Musiker-board but it's in German. I think they were the first to expose the joyo board as a Fulltone OCD (mix and match of version 1 and 3, with different potvalues to mask the rolloff).

Yep, the biggest scandal to hit the guitar world since Gibson tried to release a Hendrix signature strat.

Not too exciting, but I built a chorus pedal. I painted the box white and wrote "chorus" on it in lack sharpie.
