Default Pedals for single-coil pickups

Have you found that certain pedals work better (or best) with single-coil pickups? What are they?

I have a vintage-y amplifier and mostly single-coil guitars, which sound great clean, but a lot of pedals (esp. distortion/od pedals) don't sound that great with my setup. Others, like delays and compressors, sound fine.

Thoughts?

I have found that many OD pedals (like TS-9) sound great with humbuckers but just don't get it with my Strat. I have been using either a Mesa V-Twin or a Jekyl & Hyde with my single coils and they work better and also give me more than one gain that I can switch to.

Thanks; exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.

I play a telecaster and absolutely love my pedalboard. Here's what I have:
Nocturne Billy Brain (preamp)
Lovepedal Les Lius (overdrive)
Vox Wah
TC Electronic Nova Delay
MXR Carbon Copy
Melekko Trim Omnicron

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Dynobrain for sure. It works with Tele's and Strats as well as it does for Gretsches. Add delay or a ton of reverb and you've got it.

Hmm, is there anything suitable in a more (cough) affordable range? Those do look great though.

It's a lot of dough, but it really does it's thing well. Since I got mine I'm only using the Dyno and the amp reverb and tremelo. Best sound I've had in years. Not to plug Tavo too much but these things are really built. And made in the USA.

Some of us can only afford to sound pretty good.

Ha, I'd settle for pretty good.

To widen my options, I have put my Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive up on eBay. Never could get a workable sound out of it. But maybe you can

These all work really well with single-coils:

Fulltone Fulldrive 2
Fulltone Choralflange
Vox Over The Top Boost
T-Rex Yellow Drive
MXR Carbon Copy
MXR Stereo Chorus
MXR Phase 100
BOSS RE-20 Space Echo
Keeley Time Machine Boost
Pigtronix Echolution

And, if you can find one:

Boss CE-1 Chorus

how much gain are you looking for? if you're on a budget check out danelectro cool cat pedals. transparent over drive and drive. both sound good with single coils.

what type of single coils are you using? strat? tele? gretsch? or??

Like Gentle Ben said, I like the sound of the singlecoils thru V-Twin, to my ears that preamp box sounds better as overdrive/distorsion then Fulltone Catalyst or FullDrive. I use T-Rex SpinDoctor too, which is also tube driven and I like it a lot. My Dyno Brain works pretty good with the SpinDoctor and moderate ovedrive/distorsion, but I switch to CompNova if I want distorsion on 11.

I like the good old EHX Big Muff it adds a little bottom end and works great for rhythm playing. For leads I use a Boss MT2 I know it has the word Metal in it but its actually a pretty good versatile distortion pedal with a low and high filter but what makes it cool is the mid is parametric sweepable.

Sorry, guess that info would help. I am playing a 5120 w/ Surf 90s and a home-built Telecaster with a neck BurstBucker and a bridge Don Mare SC, into an Ampeg Reverberocket 2 (mid-60s, very clean amp with 'verb and tremolo).

I'm mainly looking for a nice edgy sound with the 5120. Anything from pretty clean with an edge up to Rev. Horton Heat territory.

+1. It's quite versatile, I like it. It's just HUGE!!! You can pick one up on eBay for £30.

The Zvex Box of Rock also works well with Single coils, but isn't that cheap, even used.

How much would it cost for you to part with it?

Xotic Effects! I have the AC+ Plus. Works great with my strat and tele. I haven't used the BB, but it is more brown sound from what I can tell. Pretty ballsy. Check 'em out.
