Jef, I'm getting a new Bass
As the resident Bass geek on this forum I figured I'd ask Jef a few things about my current Bass project as well as share my excitment over this second bass
It's a red Squier P-Bass Special body that I just installed a Mighty Mite neck on.
1. I have a '75 Jazz Bass pickup coming for the bridge spot and a "Fender Original P-Bass" pickup coming for the "neck" spot. Any opinions on these pickups?
2. I'm not sure if the Jazz Bass chrome bridge cover AND the P-Bass pickup covers will fit with much room for my finger picking - I like to rest my thumb on the pickup cover. If it works, I will have some cool photos for Jukebox!
I installed a '57RI gold anodized pickgaurd and the maple-on-maple neck and Squier tuners. I should be receiving the pickups, electronics (Bourns 250k pots), and chrome covers in a few days.
So far the red, gold, and maple look much better! The neck plays great!

That sounds great Johnny! Great colours! I'm no use to you with any questions, I know barely anything about building guitars, and even less about building basses - looking forward to seeing it finished, though

Johnny, Synchro is also a bass player. With this nice weather,Jeff might be out peddling his arse off.

Synchro a low-freq-freak as well? Cool!
I was nervous about the pickups, but I'm sure they'll sound great...
I was hoping Jef could tide my curiosity over until the UPS guy brings me the pickups

Like I said, he's most likely the resident hooker now with the nice weather. If it's nice he will be out pedalling his arse. He won't be making any money doing it!

Not pedalling, but working, my arse, off (although I do have over 800 miles on the bike so far).
I'm in Buffalo, NY today. Last 2 days in Rochester, NY. I've been on the road 6 weeks straight.
Went to HOUSE OF GUITARS. Saw an actual picture of Chet Atkins with a guitar he once held. I know a couple of you just creamed your jeans.
A LOT of amps there. But no owner, so no idea on price. Couple I was really interested in, too.
BACK TO BASS
I know a few guys making KILLER parts casters out of Squier parts, mixed with better hardware. The wood is virtually the same, made by the same programs. I've always thought the basses would sound even BETTER.
Johnny - those pickups sound AWESOME. Same thing Fender did with their deluxe line, minus the active electronics. I didn't like the active pickups anyhow. Sounded just fine without them.
Word of caution - if you play/pick wild and hard with chrome pickup/bridge covers, blood WILL fly !

OK, Juke...
Here's a photo:
I accidentally killed the '75 Jazz pickup and will be rewinding it myself later (using a drill press and decent 42AWG wire). so for now, it still has the Squier Jazz pickup in the bridge spot.
Jef O, you were right - the Original Fender RI P-Bass pickup sounds KILLER.
