NGD: Gibson SG Melody Maker
I had been thinking about picking up one of those SG Melody Makers for a while. My local indie music store was blowing them out at $299, so I stopped in today and tried several of them out and went for a white one, although the blue SG was just as nice, and the blue Les Paul shaped one was equally cool. This is a stock photo. As of Friday, they had 16 of them in stock. Today, there were seven left. Good thing I got there today!
I was going to buy an Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro, but why should I get a Chinese guitar when these are so inexpensive?
The guitar plays beautifully. The fit and finish is excellent, the neck is chunky and straight as an arrow, and cranked with overdrive, it kicks a**. How could I go wrong for $299? An American-made Gibson for less than three hundred bucks? That's unheard of.
I wish I could have bought two! I would have taken the blue LP shaped one. I can see buying another one soon.

It's a ceramic magnet Gibson 491T. I'm not a big fan of these pickups, but so far, I like what I'm hearing. I have a GFS Dream 90 with the white MOTS top I can throw in if I feel inclined.

I asked because the MM reminds me of SG-X I have, it has the 500T ceramic in the bridge and a coil tap. Switching to a single coil doesn't make the SG to sound like tele, but I like it. But you need a 4 wires pickup to split the coils...

That's one of my favorite minimalist, don't-need-no-neck-pickup-I'm-all-bridge-tonight favorites. Beautiful.

I use to play on one and only pu since one year... And i was a gibson 335 fan!! I don t need all those stuff for the moment , even if i understand it s fun and versatile. One pu oblige myself to be concentrated on playing without hiding behind electronic.

$710?! Damn. I'm so glad I'm living in the USA!
Cost me $299 with gig bag, plus sales tax out the door.

If anyone has a link to a cheap one(or just a good deal) somewhere in the Eurogenous zone, I'm all ears. I think I need one, preferably in white!

The thing that's is really criminal is the Canadian dollar is at par with the US dollar, the USA is on the other side of the lake, we have a free trade agreement but it still costs $500 in Canada. Pure banditry.

I've seen them at Thomann for €299, shipping is free I think or really cheap. 3 Year Thomann warrantee, 30 day money back return policy...there... I've run out of excuses.

No, just a serviceable gig bag. I remember those retro boxes the other reissue Melody Makers came with several years ago. They were a nice touch.
