My newest leather project.
i am doing the front, back and sides, here is he bacK and the front unfinished. I will keep yall posted on its progress!
We got a Wormoth Body, and I am going to use this CS 51 for parts for now until we start the upgrades with Joe Bardens and possibly a different neck...I just couldn't bring myself to cover such a beautiful piece of nitro shot wood that was originally there with this guitar, it would have been un-reversable with the glue, so we just got a plain ash body unfinished from Wormoth for this project, and the CS Tele will be eventually put back together after all the parts have been re-harvested.
Nice leather work Chancey!
Are you going to dress the sides too?
Ya the sides will be done as well...I am still coming up with the artwork for those..it will be 9 sections, bullets, art work, bullets artwork...and so on.
Doing this will not effect the sound, the bridge is mounted directly to the wood, and the strings go through the body. And we will be putting Joe Bardens in it along with Switchcraft parts and whatever else magical he does. I say we...because I am working with Scott Morgan building this guitar, I am doing all the leather and he is assembling and doing the set up and the dial in of the guitar. I am designing a Charlie Christian style pick up cover for the Neck pup so in the future a tech can easily get in there and do whatever they have to do since the front of the guitar including the pick guard are 1 piece of leather. But I will be adding the screws to give it the look that it a separate piece.
It is a shame that a picture doesn't capture the true depth of this project...the characters are popping out about 1/4": or 4mm about.
Beautiful work man! Question: are you burning the design in with a woodburner and leather tip? if not how are you doing it?
No I am an old school leather carver I have been doing it most of my life, it is done with a knife and a lot of other tools...but NO TORCH. The black is black dye put on with a brush.
Getting the sides finished up with the tooling today, I am going to add in some bullets and playing card symbols in between the hand carved Conchos and a turquoise dot is going in the middle of each Concho, it should make it pop real nice.
Coming together nicely, the new front piece is in the works, but I managed to get the sides done and the back piece Ferrule holes punched....more to come!
A couple hours of lace. All the pieces are glued now, This guitar will be done by next week. After it is all laced together, Scott Morgan will do the set up and plug this puppy in!
