NBD DeArmond JetStar
Ever since I came back from the Cowtown Roundup I've been thinking about getting a bass. So I started looking around for a short scale because I know I like shorter scale guitars, I figured a regular or long scale bass would give me fits.
I was perusing the local pawn shop and saw this bass with a funky looking body. I took out my tape measure and found it to have a 30" scale. So I did my best Pawn Stars negotiation and got a fairly good deal on it.
It seems to sound decent. All the electronics work. Only the lightest scratches on the back.
I figure this will give me the chance to see if I will like playing bass before I stars GASsing for a Thunder Jet or one of the soon to be released Electromatic basses.

I like that, a very funky looking little bass.
The trick is not to play bass like a guitar player. Easier said than done of course, three years in I'm just starting not to play the guitar like a bass player.

It does say "by Guild" on the truss rod cover. So I guess there could be some similarities.

I haven't weighed it. But it seems about 1-2 pounds heavier than my Jet. Not too bad.

Welcome to the fat side of sound. I play as a backup bassist for two bands at the moment. It pays some bills. Anyway, I play an Ibanez, its not top notch, but its mahogany. Very very light. Makes standing for two hours a bit easier. Enjoy!

I looked up that Thunderbird. I think you're right. I wonder it they used old T-bird bodies to make these basses?

That thing is cool. It looks like it has just enough "horn" on the upper bout to keep it from being neck heavy. Great find!!

Does it have a bolt on neck? I've got a Korean built Jet Star which is the guitar version and it has a set neck-through body. The guitars were built in both Korea and Indonsia, it seems that the Korean ones had set necks and the Indonsian ones were bolt on. My guitar has Dearmond Gold Tone pickups, I think that different pickups were fitted to the Inonisian guitars.

Hey Henry,
Mine has a set neck as well. Unlike yours, mine has no pickguard and single pole pickups. The back of the headstock says Crafted in Korea.
