It really is looking good. It sure is a great concept, and your craftsmanship is outstanding. Did you have to use grain filler on that oak?

Thanks. No grain filler. After the first coat the Danish Oil is applied with fine sandpaper. This builds up a slurry which fills the grain. So after a number of coats it should give a smooth surface.
Its had its 3rd coat of the Danish Oil. I plan to put on another coat this evening. The a few more tomorrow.
All being well it will be ready for assembly on Tuesday.

FINISHED
Just finished assembling the guitar. Still a couple of things to do but essentially its finished. I'm happy with the result and it sounds good as well. The action is low and no fret buzz. 11 days from start to finish.
And here's a close up of the body.
Still to do
* install strap locks
* install string trees
* move wires from f hole.
* fix wiring mistake (I forgot to connect the tone pot ground to the back of the vol pot)
unfortunately some of the Danish oil got into the f holes - a lesson learned for next time.
Now to come up with a name for it and get a decal made.
Oh - there is a gretsch connection. The switch and pots are from my 5120.

This has been a great project . Have you considered darkening down the cavity where the F holes are ? Just an idea an no reflection on your outstanding craftmanship.

Thanks. Funny you should mention darkening the f hole cavities. I was thinking about painting the inside of the cavity with danish oil tinted with a little Mahogany stain. This should hide the Danish oil spills and darken the holes as well.

Thanks all for the encouragment. It's been a fun project. I get to cross off another holiday project from my list.
I've put an old set of strings on it while i set it up and it sounds surprisingly good. The action is low with no fret buzz. I havent set the intonation yet, but it is very close and stays in tune up the neck.
I like the Jazzmaster trem, the tension can be adjusted easily to alter the responivenes of the tremolo arm.
This morning I'll fix the wiring and fit the strap locks and string trees. I used a vintage mustard cap so i want to hear how it sounds!
My wife is also telling me to get a decal made as it needs a name. Can't disagree now i have approval.
The name's going to take some thought. I was thinking of something like Nadles in fender spaghetti script then a name - but what to call it. Telemaster, Jazzcaster, Surfcaster, Surfmaster etc all seem to be taken.
Could always call it Ferdan Nadocaster.

Excellent!
Can you please take a pic of the bridge from the side, I'd like to see/measure the strings break angle...

Hey Nadles - looking really good. Have you thought about raising those P90's when you do your final setup? Maybe just slip a piece cut from a mouse pad under them?

Thanks Telespank. Raising the pickups is something I'll do when I put on the new strings and do the final set up. I may need to glue some shims in the pup cavities to give the screws more bite. The pups are mounted on rubbery foam.
I put aluminum shims under the two e string saddles and the bridge radius is now 9.5 inches (or extremely close to it) .
