my custom rutters 51' p-bass / la cabronita style
I was somewhat smitten by the fender custom shops limited edition
Porazzo 51' relic p-bass but didnt want the body wood or the modern bridge
nor the higher than normal custom shop pricetag.
Whats funny as I started from the inspiration of receiving the non production
tvjones thunder "blade" bass pickup (the production models have a black top) and kinda went " I know marc has built me incredible tele guitars so he's gotta be able to pull this off"
SO... I commissioned Marc Rutters of ruttersguitars.com for a
sugarpine version with a vintage looking tele barrel style bridge
but compensated ala moderne'.
its taken some time but the end result is just amazing. here are some picts

very cool..i saw that Marc was building that (he build stuff for me) and I loved it. I'm not a bass player, but that is pretty much the exact one I'd want to play if I was. Congrats.

An understated beauty! Are the blades on the PU long enough to pick up the signal of the outer strings?

oh yes. these are dedicated Bass pckups, just like the thundertrons except with the steel blades. here's a closer pict (click the tab ontop for a huge pic)
the radius of the blades gives the illusion that they dont completely span across the width of the strings.

That kicks ass. I love the bridge and the subtle aging of the metal bits. Very, very nice job!

Sounds great, Tavo. That bass is a beaut and I gotta say I wanna hire the gorilla for a gig.

This is one beautiful P bass, and with the bridge manages to look way better than the Fender. I played a La Cab P and the 1.5" nut, U shape neck and 7.25" radius made it a very distinctive neck. I liked it, but perhaps not to everyone's tastes. Did you have the exact same spec on your own neck, or did you change it in any way? Does Rutters build necks from scratch?

Marc's work is second to none. He's built a La Cab and a Telemaster for me and they're both solid players.
As someone who spends an awful lot of gig time on basses, color me jealous!
