My First Telecaster Build with Bigsby Tele
My very first build of a guitar ever. One piece ash Telecaster. Orange stained and finished by me first time I am very impressed with myself.(like that is news to any of you) Bigsby, Keystone Pickups, Sperzel Locking staggered tuners. I ended up doing it myself because I had a builder that was going to really make me my dream orange Tele. It looked real good in the pics but the finish would not stick so the guy refunded my money and gave me the body after we dorked around for over five months. Because of that I decided I would try and complete the project myself. I have been getting my advice from those that have been there done that on different forums posts on how to do different things. Jan 6, 2011 I stripped the screwed up body finish off with Jasco paint remover the finish slid off like removing finger nail polish. Then I re-sanded the body smooth. I went to Sherwin Williams paint store for advice on stain. Some orange dye mixed up on the spot and sampled on some scrap wood and for $7.00 got an orange color I liked. Then I got some deft nitro took 2 1/2 cans to finish. I have about 15 coats on this baby lightly sanding between every three coats. Let it cured then wet sanded and buffed with Adams automotive detail products. I got a Birdseye all maple Fender licensed neck thanks to CEG Hardtails they sent me several pics and I picked out a beautiful birdseye maple neck. They are extremely reasonable, best price I could find and the fret work is all done leveled polished and crowned. I highly recommend them for necks. Contact for them is ceghardtails@hotmail.com also the logo was done by a member here vidot72. He is a player and a graphic artist designer and is really really really reasonable for custom decals and will design what you want conact Ronny vidiot72@netzero.com Anyway, I twanged on this baby for over three hours yesterday. No fret buzz, intonation is right on, no shims in the neck pocket, plays and sounds great , sparkly, spanky, twangy, tele sound and she stays in tune. I am very pleased with my first time out to try to "build" a tele with a bigsby.

rc, that's a sweet-looking git! Great that it plays as good as it looks, too. Neck to body joint looks super and no shims. You should be very proud. Congrats! G.G.

Wow, that looks good!
Actually been looking into building a Tele just like that!
Orange stain, same pick guard and a Bigsby. I was thinking RW fretboard, but not sure when I see that beauty
Can I ask you what the costs ended at?
"Built" myself one at Warmoth.com but the price was far out of my league

All USA and Fender Licensed parts except for pick guard
Birdeye Neck $165.00, (well worth it with finished fret work done)
Keystone Pickups $90.00, (The real original Bill Lawrence)
Sperzel Locking Sraggered Pole Tuners $60.00
Fender USA pre-wired control plate $50.00
Bigsby Tele Kit $135.00
Pickguard $15.00
Finishing Supplies, stain, nitrocellulose, sand paper, etc. $30.00
$545.00 without a body Mine was free because of the screwup with the original guy that was going to build it. You can buy nice ash unfinished Tele Bodies for under $100.00 easily. So for high quality parts you can build one for under $650.00 and hopefully end up with what you want.

Very nice RC! That looks like a pro job. A man couldn't complain with that color or finish. I'm sure you are much prouder than if the other guy had made it! Wow.
How much you want for it? (kidding)

I couldn't believe how easy Deft nitro is to work with goes on easy mistakes easily fixed great stuff and it can buff out to any shine you want.

Keystone Pickups are the absolute Tele Bomb pretty quiet for single coils and bright, sparkle, and twang to spare.
