Well, I'm actually having one built for me--which is a nice change A different type of anticipation and excitement for sure.
I went with a translucent orange nitro finish, a parchment guard and a rosewood board. Really excited about getting my hands on some Jason Lollar pickups, a '52 in the bridge and a Charlie Christian in the neck.
Haven't a clue. Just sent the final drawing in today. I was leaning toward a humbucker in the neck, but then I saw the Christian and a video of Tim Lerch playing them

Nah, I don't build Teles, so I don't have templates, etc. Not to mention lack of time. I've got a steady backlog of orders to keep me busy. Plus, it's nice to spec something and then have someone else do the work I will be building an "orange" amp to match though. Have a few in the queue for a show in August.
Thanks, Tara. I'm looking forward to it. I've promised not to bug him about a delivery date He's buying an amp from me, so I could hold that hostage to speed things up
Every now and then I think I should build one instead of putting together partscasters. Today I took apart a bunch of old harnesses and re assembeld them into one good one. Then pulled out the MIM pups from a tele I've had, and put it back together wiht the new harness and some Fralin Blues pickups I had. Took 4 hours and I again realized I don't have the time or patients to do a whole guitar.
Love the looks of those CCs. There's a used Joe Pass in natural over at Elderly with a CC in the neck. It looks a bit askew in the pics. But pairing it with a 50s wound dogear in the bridge might be magic.
