I debated long and hard between the two (TV's and de Lisle), but was so impressed with the service and attention to detail on the Nickel Box that he built, that Jer got the nod. That, and the fact that there were way more options to have it built exactly like I wanted. I'm sure that either would have been great, though.

Not sure on the ETA. Probably mid to late January if I had to guess.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen
January is looking good.
Here's the obligatory shot of the unglued neck joint hanging in mid-air. Live, without a net

I need to hit your site Jer and look for the sound clips, she must be good and the pics are very tempting, havent bought my christmas present yet and was planning on buying a set of powertrons for the duo-jet, changed my mind on the dynas, so after I pull that off, I will be getting in touch, maybe work out another payment plan with you and look for a eta in may or june...

Wow. Beautiful work!

So far, that guit looks like it could take a ground-zero nuke and laugh it off... Then play in tune with no tweaks.

Thanks for the pictures. I would be awesome to see this thread continue, step by step as this beauty comes together. I know it would give me a better understanding how it all comes together!

That sounds like a plan, Dan. I have to build another one shortly anyway, so you might be able to have a hand in that. Shoot me an email and I'll fill you in on the details.
Thank you Big Burly, mikante and Sarah. I'll forward pictures to Mr. Smith so can see them first.

Yep, we're getting closer.
I did a little more shaping on the neck after that picture and finished the toggle switch hole on the back.
Bryan picked out Hipshot Grip-Lock tuners. I had been using their bridges, but I had not tried their tuners. They have an 18:1 gear ratio and a screw-in bushing that looks like it will do a really nice job of keeping the shaft from flexing.
That big piece of brass is our string ferrule block. It will sit under a Hipshot hardtail bridge.
Just need to round over the edges on the body and carve the tummy contour. Then, it will be ready for finishing.

I really like the style of this particular single-cut. It reminds me of those killer old Supro Ozark guitars.

Big Burly: Someone else mentioned echos of Supro. I see a resemblance, but the cutaway was actually inspired by this

And here's the back...showing the tummy contour and the rosewood heel cap. Still need to do a little more shaping on the heel and some final sanding before finishing.

Great source of inspiration, Mugsy!
Those old Supro guitars probably had the same inspiration.

You sent me googlin' for photos when you mentioned Supro. That's the one I found, too I drew from a few sources for inspiration--one of which was my wife. She suggested that the headstock design mimic the upper bout / cutaway.

These guitars are probably one of the best kept secrets . They certainly match or better far higher priced guitars coming out of the Fender Custom shop. I really really love Teles but why have an upper end tele when you can have one of these! (with a custom set of BG pups?). One day this will be my last guitar to complement my 2 Gretschs. Ok I only have one at the moment but plans for the purchase of the next one are firmly formulated.

Thank you, sir. Bryan chose yellow stain. I emailed a sample photo this afternoon to see how clear/opaque he wants to go on the finish. The stain by itself will leave streaks of other colors visible. The other option would be to do a translucent finish where we would tint the lacquer to make the color more uniform--similar to a Fender blonde.

We're working hard to our name out there, and I'm humbled by your kind remarks. They are very much appreciated.
The pickups in this particular guitar will be TV Jones P90s. Mr. Jones' company has been very gracious toward us...and they also make very fine pickups They are my first choice, but we can provide pickups from other winders upon request.

I figured that I had the Filtertron sound covered with the TV Classics in my 6118, and Dynas in my Jet (will probably change to TV's when they come out), so this one is going to be my p90 guitar. Now that it's getting close, I'm really getting excited.

Made some progress on Byran's guitar this week.
The neck is finally glued in, and the fretboard has been properly radiused. The frets are installed, but still require beveling, leveling, etc. One coat of stain was applied, which will be sanded off prior to a second coat. I couldn't resist putting the hardware in place to see where it's headed.
Once the second coat of stain is applied, we'll move on to grain filler.

Man, that is looking sweet. And with all that coolness, it's got the V-neck, too, right?
