After growing up on acoustic (after starting on a Kay electric), my first real electric guitar in earnest was a Univox LP copy. I didn't even know what it was a copy of, as I only knew of SG "Les Pauls."
It was like power steering, after the Kay (and acoustics).
Then I found and bought for cheap another Univox LP copy with sunburst flame and open coil pickups (not even realizing what a '59 Gibson was even though Mike Bloomfiled had made 'em famous).
I guess I was a little slow on the upbeat. But I remember them fondly. I think there's even a Univox fan forum somewhere on the net.
Lately I've seen some old Univox Moserite copies, but they're quite a bit pricier nowadays.

I was watching the clock on ebay and it was going to be 310.00 up till 5 seconds before ending then right before my eyes it jumps to 375.Wow someone bid 61 some dollars then it cost me 375 . Some times I think instead of having a reserve , they get a friend to bid up a bit just in case it will raise the bid price, Who knows. The other bidder hadnt even bid on anything in atleast a month.(no bidding record) Oh well. any thing that old and looking that nice is probably worth it. I'll get some pick up as soon as she arrives.

Thanks Tara and Sarah. I'm thinking of making a little collection of these old univoxes. If you look them up, they have endless selection at great prices. You should look up the 12 string that matches this guitar.

B-rad, You are right, they are at times that hidden treasure if you know what to look for in the Univox. They are a nice guitar and the cool thing about them is, everyone forgets about them! Nice catch. Go for that 12 string!

If I end up liking the bass who knows anything could happen. The matched set, a 4, a 6 and a 12. Sure would make for a beautiful wall dispaly. Doncha agree:

Well Ive had the bass about a week and I've taken the neck off and reset the angle, brought the bridge down, set the neck truss and she's a nice guitar. I'm very happy with it. The finish shines like new with not to many dings. The frets show no wear.and the tone is from boomy to quite gritty. I'm impressed. http://cgi.ebay.com/Univox-Custom-33...=p3286.c0.m14I I can't get those pictures to work like they did on the testing page. Help?

Thank you Sarah. I've been watching those and the 12 strings go for alot , the six strings aren't to bad. I was impressed with the construction of the bass I got.. The tiger maple top and back with all the binding every where and inlays. I just don't know why I want the set on my wall.

Well I went and did it. I bought the six string to match the bass. Should be in by the end of next week. It says it belonged to Kurt Cobain. Its out of Seattle and I get all the details to the story soon. It all doesn't really matter cus for 350 it's a deal. Its a 67 or 68. http://cgi.ebay.com/Univox-hollow-bo...d=p3286.c0.m14

Univox up date
I brought this old thread back up from the archives. Since the last post, I've put together a matching set of 1967 univox three tone sunbursts 4,6,12 stringers. All copies of the gibson 335. Today a univox ub-1 bass that I found on eb should be in, I can't wait. Its a copy of the fender jag. It's also a sun burst.

Very cool indeed. My univox 335 is of a much higher quality than I expected. It's a great guitar. Yeah, thats me back in high school hanging in the parents basement.

I have a univox amp. its someplace pre-1984. obviously cause thats when Korg bought them out. sounds pretty good. 15-25 watts of tube power, but the tube has turned totally black over the years. It kindof just sits in my room.

All I can claim ownership to is a Univox amp logo that's been laying around for years.

guitarmaker, I sold my Univox Coily (335 with Bigsby) and still regret it! Almost bought a replacement off ebay some months ago, but they were selling for around $600, so I opted for a new 5122 instead.
Some of you may be interested in this great Univox guitar and bass site:

Sorry Dafreeze. I'm in the middle of a big remodel here on the house and the camera and every thing is buried. I promise to up date soon. I've put a nice collection together with these univoxes. They are well built and the maple is nice on every one of them. Brad
