Just joined
I have been a lurker but as I am up to three Gretsch's at this point I thought I would join. I want to stress that the guitar is not for sale but I am "toying" with doing a trade for a guitar with a local guy for a guitar we both more or less agree as to the value. the thing is he lusts after my still in the original shipping box with Gretsch hard case 5127, this is a 2003 fixed bridge B70 model. He is a friend so we want to be fair to each other. I have a 335 as well as a White Falcon and an orange 5120 and a Wildkat and a 339, Kawai 175 clone, etc. so the 5127 gets more or less ignored. I just wonder if i will be kicking myself years down the road if I let it go. I buy guitars but almost never sell for cash, just trades. I just don't want to confuse rare with valuable. The only real reason I am reluctant to let it go is that it seems that the pickups are no more on any Gretsch's I see, also the color is very cool, my only blue guitar. I just wanted to get the group opnion. I know there is the one guy constantly asking for one but I wonder how serious he is. I do see them for sale on the net but the prices are all over the place. Then there is the whole Korea vs China thing, fixed vs floating B60 vs B70 , best colors, just to get the debate going.

Welcome to the forum Classico Wheels. I'm not going to weigh in much on this other than to say that I doubt very seriously that I will ever part with my 5129 -- all else being equal, for basically the same reasons you just stated. Plus it is my first Gretsch. I'm a trader too and for the first time in my life I'm considering trading a Strat for an equally valued Wildcat -- I've traded lots of things for Strats, but never traded my only Strat for another guitar (sometimes for rent money). So I think I understand that uneasy feeling you might be having....

Welcome to Gretsch Talk Classico. You'll love it here. You have some great guitar and I have a few myself. As to selling your 5127... DON'T. Of all the 512X series the 5127 is probably the most sought after. It also plays and sounds great and the discontinued DeArmond 2000 pickups are super nice sounding. I currently have a 5129 and a 5125 and am working on a Historic with DeArmonds.
If you sell your 5127, I am sure the day will come when you regret it.
PS: Moonshine, I'm assuming you are trading a Mexi Strat. Good trade, WildKats are great guitars and you can ALWAYS find anoth Mexi Strat cheap/

Welcome aboard, Classico. Good luck with the trading. I agree with the others... keep that 5127.
