Default My 5120 with TOG P90's

Here it is.

The Togs are pretty nice, quite sweet, bug a little bright. I like them.

When I get bored of these, I'll fit the TV Classics in the Ripley Perspex mounts. After that, I'll try the Dearmond 2000's.

But, for now, the Togs are staying in.

Cheers

Marlin.

I'm a big fan of the Togs. A little brite, a little raw, but are a joy to play.

I think it's time for some reading glasses.......

The TOG's are really nice. They are a bit bright, but respond well to tweaks on the volume and tone knobs. When I use the amps natural OD, or stomp on a pedal, they really come to life. They're quite quiet, and behave well. A great pair of pickups on a pocket money budget. I'm really pleased with them.

I will say that the pickups that came with the guitar were not bad, they get a lot of bad press. They sounded Gretschy, and I could get some nice tones out of it. Perhaps a little warm and a touch muddy, but pleasant enough. These Togs are much better, but they do make the guitar sound a little more generic. A Dearmond in the bridge would sort that right out. But, i'm enjoying it as it is, and it's tremendous fun to play. Another Gretsch sound in the collection.

Thinking about it, I probablly won't put the TV Classics in this, as I have them on some of the pro lines, and then it won't be a fair companison. oohh, just had a thought....hilo's!!!

Regardless, these TOG's are staying in for a year at least. I have no desire to pull them out yet, and they're standing up well to pickups that cost many multiples of their humble price.

All the best

Marlin

I Would say its not a modern P90 tone, it's quite vintage, a lot of P90's these days are overly hot, or designed for a thicker tone. These are.light, bright, and have a good deal of sparkle about them. They're not perfect, but the imperfections are where the tone is. Perfect is boring
as hell.

They work beautifully with the 5120.

A bargain

Nicely said! To my understanding that is typical of vintage P90's too. I've heard other hum size sound clips, but not owned any. And none sounded as the Togs.

What are your "vintage" specs saying the output is on the bridge pup?
