SO CAL GREtSCH TOGETHER?
Has there ever been a SoCal Gretsch together?
And, if so, are they still on speaking terms?

Maybe its so bad they're not even speaking to you. Of course you know about the "Northern Cal Gretsch Roundup" up on Donner Pass this Sept? i wish I could afford to go; but alas...

Yeah. The timing is way not good for me this year for the Donner Pass meet. Sadly, I had to miss out in the AZ one this past spring, also. I was just wondering if it even been attempted anywhere in greater southern or even central California in the past.
My suspicion is there may not be a lot of interest for a variety of typical LA reasons, but I would be plenty ok with being proved wrong.
Surely there are Gretsch players!

Personally I think its a great idea. L. A. is one of the recording meccas of the world (not to mention the size of the general population)! I grew up in L. A. so I know what you mean; but, as you know, stereotypes are meant to be broken and I'm sure there are plenty of very cool Gretschies living in L. A. I think Billy Zoom (of the band "X") probably still lives in L. A. and he has a signature model Sparkle Jet. And there must be at least two or three other big name Gretsch players living there that I have no idea of; so it should be pretty easy to get something like that going. Maybe Ric12String would want to get involved in something like that? Most of my family lives in L. A. and O. C. so it would be a good trip for me (living in the far north) and I'm sure there are many in the surrounding areas, all the way from Bakersfield to San Diego, who would come. "If you build it, they will come..."

Hmmmm. Not an overwhelming response just yet. Maybe folks are busy watching the olympics (OR are hiding behind the couch and praying I'll drop the subject).
We'll give it a bump. See what falls.

Well? Whadda ya guys think? I was just testing the waters in an idle kind of way. Synchro? Any ideas? Suggestions? Have there been any previous attemps in SO-CAL?
Should we do a semi official interest poll? Thoughts? ETC? This is NOT about moi. So I need some group wisdom here. Work with me.

you might try rallying some more at the GDP (gretschpages.com) there tends to be more Orange Country, Los Angeles area folks there I think. I know a Bay area one was gaining momentum. It really helps if there is a store that features gretsch guitars involved in the more urban areas.
I'm gonna be flying out to the nashville roundup for the first time, I'm finally giving in. I dont like Jamming at all, but I didnt realize a lot of guys just come to shoot the crap and drinks some beers. I'm always down for that sort of thing and I plan to be in a neighboring town for recording so it works out for me.
I would go to the nor-cal roundup but I've got tickets for the family to see Reverend Horton heat that weekend.

I believe I'll give your sage advice a whirl,Tavo. I have mixed emotions about jaming adnauseum also, but sometimes unexpected good can bloom therein. If nothing else, it might be cool to touch base with folks in person, shoot the breeze, learn a thing or two, network, etc.
Stay tuned folks. Anyone else who wants to chime in, please do. Forum or PM.

At the Northern California Roundup, we have time set aside for specific songs, but also there is lots of free time for people to jam or to play songs that everyone knows on the spur of the moment. This year's theme is The British Invasion, so we will be playing a set or two of British Invasion songs. But, the rest of the event is free form with people being able to play whatever they want (provided that the rhythm section knows the song).
By the way, Tavo, there is a lot of beer and other alcohol consumed at the Northern California Roundup too! You would feel right at home.
Monterey Jack, I would encourage you to head up to the Northern California Roundup and see how these events get done and then you can figure out whether or not to host an event down there.

At the Arizona Gretsch Roundup we did something a bit different. Every hour or so our band did a mini set of 3 - 4 songs. Then the stage was opened up The rhythm section of Clutch Draggin' and the Lug Nuts was available or other players were welcome to play bass and/or drums. By having a little bit of structure it prevented the festivities from degenerating into an endless 12-bar Blues.

In terms of local guitar store/ Gretsch dealer sponsership participation, has anybody had any experience with GC in a proposition like this? What would be/has been their posture?
I ask because GC is the closest non-super locked door Guitar Salon in my neck of the woods. There may be others and I'm waaaaay open to suggestions or inside info.

I'm not sure just what the connection is to a local guitar store, MJ. You don't need a guitar store to put on a Roundup. I think that the earlier remark pertained to having more Gretsch players in the area if the store was a Gretsch dealer.

Hey Ric. I probably don't need much beyond a backyard and some AC outputs from a minimalist POV. BUT... My guess is that people would like a little more than meeting my dogs and their dog crap so I'm searching for all advice - yours included. A few folks have PM's me and indicated the a local dealer involvement might serve as a point of interest for some of the potential participants. I'm just doing research and kicking around ideas at this point.
I very much appreciate your input and support. You're absolutely right that it is what we make it. Please keep em coming.

I wonder if this place would be hip enough to host a bunch of Gretschies?

If not, there's a cat in Chatsworth who puts on house concerts... saw Marshall Crenshaw at his place...
