Look what the stork delivered!
WOOOOHOOOOOO!
The Champagne Jet has landed! It looks to be a very early Fender production model and has a few small scratches and dings but nothing through the paint. The hardware is also oxidized but nothing a good cleanup won't take care of. This guitar is definitely the perfect candidate for a set of Magnatrons, a Compton Bridge, and, if I can find some way to avoid drilling extra holes or at least hiding any extra holes, new tuning machines as well.
I'm going to do a quick test of electronics and then it's time for cleanup, a new set of strings and intonation. I'll post results later.
Lest Jukebox beat me silly, here are a few pics!

Maybe a year ago Dave's Guitar's had a twin to that only it was from back in the day and they said it belong to Eric Clapton. Reportedly he loved the sound but never could to get a handle on the controls. Had a crazy price on it no matter who owned it!
Maggies would work but my first thought was Supers! It might be just fine with the stock filters though!

Wow Darin, you're the luckiest guy on earth - two BEAUTIFUL Jets in one week you're sending me all shades of green with envy!
Hope the setup runs smoothly, and the guitar is playing beautifully before the evening is through can't wait to hear it with magnas in it!

It's got stock filters and they sound really nice. I'm not sure if it's my imagination or not but they seem to be just a bit hotter than my other jets.
Even though it's still settling in to its new environment, I have to say I'm pretty ecstatic over how great this thing plays. It really has that "old pair of jeans" quality when you pick it up. The roller bridge seems to help keep things in tune when using the Bigsby, but I still intend to put one of Pop's bridges on it when I have the extra cash.

I still want to see all the jets chillin' together that's gotta be quite a sight, 2 blacks, 2 sparkes, 3 of them double-cuts.. I'm drooling just piecing it together in my head!
We both got really lucky this week, eh? we should make it International Gretsch Jet Week

Hey, don't knock schtuping... It's the most beautiful thing that money can buy. As for the stork, well, let's just say we were two strangers that passed in the night. Extremely bony legs and very difficult to keep still but if you can manage to grab one and close a drawer on its feet it's quite an experience.
I think I might have gone a little too far off the grid on that one.
In fact, I officially deny ever having writing this post.

While I'm working on some group shots of the jets together, here are some quick little sound clips of the Champagne Jet through a Vox DA5.
As I don't yet have a good guitar to computer interface I actually recorded these using my iPhone. They don't sound too bad, surprisingly. As usual, please forgive the messy playing and noodling.
Champagne Jet Neck Bridge
Champagne Jet Neck
Champagne Jet Bridge and Middle
As I mentioned earlier, the pickups sound good but just a tad thinner than the rest of my jets, so I will definitely go forward with my plan to slap a pair of Magna'Trons in there when I can.

Your noodling was great, quit being so darn modest, you know you rock!
awesome samples! and the sound was pretty good for an iPhone! - I can't wait to hear the magnas in it now, and listen along side these clips to see the difference!

Still thinking about it...the seller's buy-it-now has actually come down a couple hundred bucks, so I'm just riding it out and seeing what'll happen.
I'm also eye-balling another Mesa Boogie Mark I amp...and I can't do both(I have to remind myself that I currently don't have a day job)...so I'm keeping my GAS tightly under wraps for now.

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak.
Dribble.
Faint.
Waft with cap.
That's the effect too much loveliness on one sofa can have on a chap.
Doncha think the black n gold one on the left looks kinda lonely with no single cut chums though? Is that an EE model? If you ever tire of it, does it want to move to England?
Seriously, that's a very handsome stable of thoroughbreds you have there. I'm Caddy green with envy...
