Default G5135 Corvette Opinions

I have been looking at the G5135 Corvette lately and just wondering if any members have one and what your opinion of this guitar is. How are the pickups in the new model? Mega Trons I think they are called. Thanks.

Thanks to all for the input. I see Blackrider has one for $625 with hardshell case and shipped. Got me thinking now. That guitar just reminds me of a Gibson SG I had years ago. I am a sucker for that color and mahogany necks. May give them a call today as long as I am home alone how much trouble could that get me into.

Bummer, they are closed on Mondays. Guess I am saved for the time being.

roadjunkie: Thanks for the tip, I was looking at that one also. With shipping it would be $599 and it is an 07. Supposedly the one at Blackrider is an 08 with the 125th badge on back of the headstock. This could be used as a bargaining chip when I call Blackrider, don't know how fexible they are??

Thanks, Pops. Just for comparison, I recorded the same song, same settings, but with the Clipper (single HiLo):

Over the Rainbow, (take 2)

(I left out some of the duff notes, so this version is much shorter)

gigatron: They both sound very good. The Corvette has a nice sound that pleases my ear. Still trying to justify another new guitar but I will come up with some lame excuse here shortly.

Here is the perfect justification for making another purchase. You all supported me in my moments of weakness and helped me to come to a conclusion. Now to convince my bride of that.

I've had mine for 3 weeks now.
Syncro's right. There is something
about the sound. The closest I
could say, is the sound is muted
in the very slightest way.

It works good for what I wanted it
for, namely to get some cables off
the floor. My neighbors 16 cats can't
tell the difference between the wireless,
and the cable.

The only gigging I do is in my living room.
So it serves it's purpose for me.

The high dollar ones may be better, but the
fourty dollar one works for me.

I just got the free headphones, they were
back ordered. I haven't opened the box yet.

All in all, a thumbs up.

Bob: The Stumpomatic looks like a good rig with the 3 pickups and the strings through the body. Just does not turn me on for some reason. I really like the look of the Cherry mahogany finish on the G5135 and of course the bigsby. It just reminds me of a guitar I should never have let go of years ago. We shall see what the day tomorrow brings when I call BlackRider to see if they will barter at all. Take care.

As intriguing as I find the idea of a 3-pickup Corvette I would definitely go for the red one myself. It just seems to fit in better with my image of a Gretsch.

Looks like BlackRider will be getting a call tomorrow. Have to dig out my bartering hat and see if a little can be shaved off the price of course. Maybe some freebies thrown in.

Synchro: Maybe we can go together and get a 2 for one deal. Ya right. I have had my eye on this one for quite some time and really like the look and feel of it. Played one of Jukes briefly in Little Falls but don't recall which pickups his had.

I'm tapped at the moment. The rains started today and I'm hoping that my existing roof holds out. One of these weekends I'll have to go to Lowes and drop a bundle on shingles. Besides that, I just finished amassing the scratch for the Bass VI that's supposed to be arriving soon. Fortunately, I had to pay ahead for it so the money is "out of sight, out of reach and out of mind". The good news is that when it actually arrives my out of pocket costs should be zip.

Pops, I think you'll be pleased with the Cherry one. I also played Mike's and it's a great little player. He loves his and I think he has another on the back burner. There are some great deals from time to time on Craigslist or eBay. Food for thought.

Sarah; Yes I have been looking on the bay and craigs list. A used one I would almost have to have it in my hands before making the buy. New, can't hardly go wrong from a dealer.

The more I play mine, the more I like it. It sounds good, and it feels good too. Compared to a big archtop, it's so small and light it's very comfortable to play. It's the one I play most of the time.

I was very lucky when I bought mine. I first saw it on an eBay auction last December. Nobody bid on it and the auction expired; the seller relisted it, and I sniped it. I got it for $350, including shipping.

gigatron: That was a great deal, congrats on that one. I just got off the phone with Black Rider Guitars and ordered a new one. 2008 year model with the 125 badge on back of the headstock. It should go out UPS today. Now maybe it will be a little easier to sleep at night.

Congratulations, Wayne! Hope you have lots of fun with your new 'Vette.

When I finally managed to whip myself into practicing and get good at playing guitar, I'll get me one of those pretty Cherry 'Vettes.

Shucks, you don't have to be "good" Vy! If that was the case, I would only own one guitar... I'm not nearly "good" enough to own the 30 that I have!

Thanks all and pictures will be up when it gets here. Now the fun of tracking when I get the tracking number. I will post my findings on how it fits in with my meeger picking style.

Ah-ha! Congratulations are in order, then.
I just checked them out in the Big G catalogue - that's a fine recipe for a great guitar.
One day, I can see one of those finding its way back to Chez Squeak

Was the missus away, or are you planning on using something from the book of plausable excuses?

Squeaker: She still works full time so I am home alone all day. She does comment about me having to much time on my hands occaionally. As long as I keep the to do list taken care of she does not get to excited about my purchases. But I will be looking in the book of justifications before it shows up here.

That's a pretty cool arrangement, Pop's and if I may say, a canny move to have justifications ready for scrutiny.

Lauren and I recently brokered a "one out, one in" and "never leave it propped up on the sofa" understanding for musical gear.

Yes, I have pretty much agreed upon a number of 3 for guitars. This will be number 3 so the need to reform will be strictly enforced. I see my tracking for the new one will be here on this Thursday. Whew at least she will be at work and I can get rid of all the packaging and find a spot for it. I am anxious to see it and give it a whirl.
Fast service for ordering today and delivery on Thursday. Lexington Kentucky to northeastern MN. Fast service. Plus 1 for BlackRider Guitars.
