Squeaker: The Washburn has a fairly good balance, it stays put when I let go of it. Used to have a rota sytem with 12 guitars and 2 mandolins. Not sure that is needed anymore. Have had the GAS under control for over a year now. There could probably be a relapse without warning, one never know about that.

Congratulations Pop's, what a great read this thread was.

Juke's been praising these since I've been here and my Son's been talking about getting a Stump-O since last fall.

Love that color as well and I think this stems back to '69, first gutar teacher had an SG. My Les Paul Studio is wine red, and I've owned 4 vehicles that color.

Scott I don't know why, but I often mix Tony and Pop's up in my head, too.

dafreeze: This guitar reminds me a lot of a 70's SG I had in the Mahogany finish like this one. It plays very well and has several tones to choose from with the 3 way toggle. The pickups have a lot of punch, more than my Filtertrons.

It' a little late now, but I found a nice review of the Corvette reissue here.

gigatron: That review is spot on except I don't agree with there opinion on a worn finish. I like the clear high gloss finish myself but that is only a matter of preference anyway.
Thanks for posting that.

Yes, it's like buying a new car and paying extra for dents and scratches.

Yes I never could see the sense in making a brand new guitar look like crap. Some go for the look though so whatever sells is in demand.
I put one of my stainless steel bridges on the Corvette and had no problems with intonation. That confirmed in my mind that they will definatly work on the fixed bridge post setup on the GreTsch's.

A couple of guys were playing road worn strats at the last FDP jam, you could easily tell the finish was faked, not my cup of coffee either!

If there is going to be a worn finish, I would rather have it done naturally. I've seen those finishes also and they do look fake! I agree with Pop's on the finish, the finish on the 'vettes are a satin finish, not a worn look at all. The only worn look that I like, is the SG worn brown. Otherwise the others look fake with all the fake checking.

I like the worn finish on my Clipper. It's worn through where your hands naturally contact the neck. The polepieces on the HiLo are a bit rusty too, when you look closely. I was going to clean it up, but then decided not to. It looks like a 50 year old pickup, and it sounds just fine.

My mother gave me a new guitar for Christmas, a Larrivee L03 with a satin finish. On the back of the neck between the first and seventh frets the satin finish has been polished until now it's almost a gloss. That's the kind of relicing I like. Maybe in 50 years the finish will be worn through to the wood.

I can respect the normal wear on a well cared for instrument that has been played a lot. Trying to fake that makes no sense to me. There are a lot of older instruments that were put to use but show little wear. In many cases, professionally used instruments were repaired or refinished when they became worn. They were tools for making music and the finish is a way to protect them. I have no respect at all for the concept of using a beat up instrument just to establish a certain look. IMO, that "look" is ridiculous.

The newer satin finishes are pretty durable but they do react to being played. I've seen some satin finishes that began to look polished after a while. The satin finished neck on the Tele I sold to Bobkat looked great after 16 years or so but it had yellowed somewhat from the bleach-blonde look it had when it was new.

One little difference noticed on the 5135 as compared to the 5122 neck wise that is. The neck on the 5135 is just ever so slightly fatter. It rather has a slight D shape in compared to the C shape of the 5122 neck. Playing comfort it is hardly noticable and not a problem. Some actually prefer that type neck shape and I am completly OK with it. Just thought it was worth mentioning for those in the market for the Corvette. Overall it is one fantastic little guitar for the price.
