Pics rock celecbrity's playing Gretsches
Hi everyone
I have been collecting pics of guitars for years
I have a few good RARE pics of famous 'Rock Stars' playing Gretsches
I invite everyone to post pics they might have of that are also RARE
Maybe we'll hold off on Brian Setzer and Chris Cheney pics....
as great as those guys are BUT... it's not RARE to see them playing Gretsches
I am going to post a few rare pics of George Harrison.... but after that.... lets keep it rare and unusual

Jet
This is George Harrison in 1961 with the 6128 Duo Jet he'd bought used from a merchant sailor/musician who got it in the states
George recorded the first album 'Please Please Me' on this jet (Twist and Shout)
He gave it away or it was stolen or something (??) but he got it back in the late 70's... he claimed it was his most favourite Gretsch ever

Placebo's frontman Brian Molko playing a 50s Duo Jet @ Angkor Wat, Cambodia @ MTV's EXIT festival last December. Brian's played a bunch of guitars over the years, mostly Fender Jaguars & Gibson SGs, for some reason on their 5th album he wondered over to Duo Jets & did most of the album on 2 vintage ones (and got me solidly hooked on their sound). He's back to the Fenders on the most recent album, so it will probably be one of the only times we'll get to see him take his Duo Jets on tour...
For bonus points, their 2nd guitarist (who only appears with them on tour to help recreate the album sounds) is playing a white falcon (seen blurrily in the background of this shot, but I was there to confirm it)

Steve Stills
That Steve Stills Pic is righteous!
It's ashame we can't find all these pics in a higher res
It'd harder to find stuff online than you'd think
I'm digging that Steve Still pic... he's probably cutting a scorching vocal as well as a super-sweet lead?
Has anyone forgotten Malcom? He make a Jet look like a 6120
Have you seen him play a white falcon? it looks like a Cello stapped on him

Most people don't think of Willie Nelson and Gretsch together like this:

Wow, cool pic of Willie! He should have stuck with that Gretsch 6122 or is it a Viking?

Go Willie
Yeah I second that
Great Willie Nelson pic... superb!
Everyone from past decades gone are loving their Gretsches....
some marketing will have you believe it's always been Strats and Les Paul's (with the odd 335 and Tele thrown in)
I think we are seeing here how important the Gretsch Guitar is in RockNRoll history!

Not too sure what a "celecbrity" is, but here is Billy Gibbons doing what he does.

Does anyone have a pic of Jeff Beck playing a Duo-Jet? He used a mid '50's on Crazy Legs. I listened to that two nights ago and it was wild hearing Beck do his thing on a Jet. He did a great job of still being HIM while respecting the strengths of the guitar, the proclivities of the Bigs and the very particular style he was aiming for.
And MAN, this is a great thread. Lennon with the Nashville is priceless. One of the most underrated, overlooked guitarists of all time.
And the King is too cool. Great shot Scott!

FWIW, there has been a thread with video caps of Gretsch sightings on TV. Not all so great quality, but kind of fun...

Nice pic of the Edge
But I think Bono's huge ego will be rumbling if we don't have a pic (or more) of him with his Country Club
Look at the green glow Adam Clayton is getting blasted from the Irish falcon... or is he green with envy that Bono is the only person in the band with a signature guitar (two in fact... he has a signature Guild acoustic as well)
