Duelin' Duo Jets!
Well, I'm home, and you know what that means
The drive was actually quite nice as soon as we got out of Sydney & away from traffic, I got some nice scenic shots for you all too.. 261kms round trip, we left at 11am, and were home by 5pm. The seller has SERIOUS seller's remorse, but I managed to pry it out of his hands anyway!
About to go & snap some flash photos of it, and of the twins together (it's 5pm & dark already), and then I'll take some better natural light photos tomorrow and also update the family portrait! Comparative sound clips will follow next week some time!
YYYYYIIIIIIIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE I'M SO HAPPY

That's awesome, Tara!
Even though it's 4 AM on Saturday morning here, it's still Friday night to me (the next day doesn't officially start until I've slept and awoken -- one of the Darin rules), so it didn't dawn on me that today was Tara's Big Saturday!
Have you plugged it in yet? How is the sound? In your early impressions how does it compare to the filters? MAN, I'm so psyched for you. Can't wait to see pics.
In the meantime, I'll satisfy the need for guitar porn for everyone. Keep in mind this is "mini porn" as in porn of mini guitars. I was rummaging through some old stuff and found these miniatures I picked up a couple years ago. One of them is your new Duo-Jet. The thing that amazed me was that I managed to find a double cut miniature. I wouldn't have thought they were popular enough for someone to make one. One thing is for sure, these things are a beeotch to tune!
DISCLAIMER: I didn't even bother dusty things off and you could see my pigpen of an apartment in the background. I worked a little Photoshop magic to blur the background to protect the innocent but at some point I'd love to get a hold of a really tiny Vox and takes them realistic shots of these. So until Tara posts her new pics I offered this pathetic substitute.

Oh my God! Tara, she is beautiful. Looks like she just left the factory. They look so good together it should be illegal.
Methinks you won't be getting much sleep tonight.

Oh, yeah! We definitely need some action shots so get that camera on a set of sticks and at that time are working.
An interesting update in my Dyna Jet quest: is a guy right here in Boston with the exact same model in pristine condition who surprisingly got no bids on eBay. I spoke to him and he said he would take $1400 for it. $1400 I don't have, naturally. But I'll stay in touch with them and I find a way to raise the funds.

Way to go Darin!
You know Scott also has one that he's willing to part with for $1K right? it's had it's tuners & strap locks changed, so there are a few extra holes around, but other than that it's in good condition.. I was seriously considering it when my local one came along, so if you miss out on the Boston one that's another option for you
Still uploading the scenic pics & staring at them in their cases together, haven't brought myself to pick it up & plug it in yet
Oh, there will be no action shots tonight, it's fffrrreeeeeeeeeeeeezing and I'm all layered up in tracksuits, not a pretty sight.

Alright, had my first play.. I'm in love all over again, I'm going to have a hard time choosing a favourite
The Dynasonics are nice and juicy for single coils (much in the same way Filtertrons are juicy humbuckers I guess), almost a bit of P90 tone in there, or as I've been told, "a Tele on steroids". I actually compare the sound a lot (in my head) to the Gibson MiniBuckers in my LP Deluxe..
Love. Love. Love. Love my twins
More pics still coming tomorrow when the sun is back on my side of the planet, and audio clips after Monday

missing a pretty telling scenic photo
Tara, you forgot to include this one, and you have to tell us about how the light from above shown on you and how the hand came and parted the rushing water and miraculously presented you a divine, dry, functional, and beautiful duo jet!!!

ROFL! Brilliant Greg!
only one problem.. that's a lefty
It's a pity tide was so high when we got to the blowhole, it can put on a pretty spectacular show with good rough seas & the right tide, 25m (~75ft) bursts & whatnot!

Great pics you have in your photobucket Tara. Sweet lookin' Jet; of course I'm partial to those. By chance, are you liking the space control bridge or will you be looking at an upgrade?

Thanks Wayne!
Scott: had the one on the Filter one for months, I don't have any issues with it & don't mind it, but I'm toying with ordering a Compton or two just to try em out & support Wayne! - maybe in a month or two when the wallet stops smoking

Congratulations Tara, thrilled for you! Differences are Dynas, Tone Pot and humpblocks vs Filters, Mudswitch and thumbnails?
Really enjoyed the scenic pics, too.

Congratulations Tara! You sound like one proud Mama! The pictures look awesome. I also love the scenic picture. It looks just like where I live. You should move to California. You'd be right at home, we'd have a blast jamming, and you'd be closer to the various Jams. Food for thought!

Precisely why someone is throwing it into the blow-hole... If they have good aim, it should land right between the banjo and the accordion down at the bottom.
And, multi-Jetulatory congrats are in order Tara! This is one of those moments where I can honestly and openly tell a woman that she has a "beautiful pair"... of DuoJets.
Good job prying the previous owner's hands off of it. I hope weapons weren't involved.

Is that Byron Bay? Where all the "travellers" hang out? Went there a loooong time ago when I lived in your fair country.
Congratulations on what looks like an absolute minter. Does it sound and play as good as it looks?
If you like Jets (I suspect you might, just a little ) the BBC is running footage from Glastonbury on the iPlayer - check out Roddy Radiation of the Specials giving it some on his dyna jets (think one might even be a black penguin).
Hope you enjoy your new arrival (in between sleepin and uploading pics n soundfiles of course...)

Okay, Tara.
You've had almost the whole day and we still have no action shots of you playing your new treasure and no side-by-side sounds examples. What gives? We are on pins and needles here. So enough is enough, forget about having fun and give us the fix we so desperately need!
In my usual perusal of various guitar emporiums on the web I found at least three early '60's Duo-Jets that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to afford. One is a 1963, black with gold hardware and in freakishly great condition. It is at Gruhn guitars and they want $4000 for it. I have the fantasy of going in there and laying out $3000 in crisp $100 bills and walking out with it. Feature wise, it's exactly like the '63 I used to have only slightly better condition. Then, of course, there's the wildly overpriced Fretted America with an early '60's Jet Firebird and a Lavender Sparkle Jet. I think they want something like $6000 for the Firebird and the absolutely outrageous sum of either $10,500 or $11,500 for the Lavender. If I was a millionaire and I could light my cigarettes with hundred dollar bills then sure, they would already be on the way to my house but back here in the real world, who do these guys think they are asking those prices? It's one thing to be a few hundred dollars over but an entirely different thing to be marking these admittedly great guitars up 100%. I suppose the good side to this is that if I ever make my million they will probably still be there for sale.
Okay... I just checked the time and it's noon on Sunday down there. Tara, tear yourself away for a second and post some pics. Don't make us come down there!

I'm surprised that you were even able to sleep knowing that you had a new guitar in the house. or that you weren't up at the crack of dawn playing. ;o))

Thanks Squeaker!!
It definitely plays & sounds that good, if not a lil better, the previous owner bought it new to play on stage, couldnt do it, so he planned to use it in the studio, and didnt.. it's been in it's case since 2006 with all of 10 mins play on it or something
Byron is 1000KMs north of Sydney, but I have to admit, the whole (coastal part of the) country looks a lot like those scenic pics I posted, so I dont blame you - It's actually Kiama, just south of Syndey & Woolongong, was about a 150km drive each way from Bondi.

Sorry Darin, I've just gotten out of bed, I had a really rough night last night, ended up with a migraine and spent most of the night in the bathroom losing dinner and wishing my head would explode already! nothing to do with alcohol or any other fun substances unfortunately, I'm allergic to certain citrus artificial flavourings, and there must have been some in something I drank or ate while out of town.
I promise you pics & action shots will be here when you get up in the morning (or in a few hours if you're having a late one), I'm even gonna retake the family portrait with all 15 of em! just for you..
Those vintage Duo Jets are too much for my ears to hear, that would be an absolute dream come true for you!! - and yeah, think of Fretted America as a vault, they'll never sell em at those prices so at least someone is maintaining them nicely till you CAN afford em I'm crossing my fingers you can get one eventually!!!
Hey, have YOUR jets showed up yet?!

Awesome couple of Jets. I've thought about a green jet to complement my Club, but I think if I were to get a jet (besides my Malcolm Young I), I would go for the DSV. Congratulations.

Thanks guys!!
6873: Comparative soundclips will be coming after Monday, I need to do a lil fine-tuning in the studio & I'm having a bit of a busy weekend
Time for a couple more pics (even more coming in a sec, just uploading another batch):
The family photo didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped (or as the last one) seems there are just too many guitars to do this now, or I need to find a new system for displaying em. If only we weren't renting I'd put my herc hangers back on the wall.

Yes pops, my head was hitting the ceiling and we've got high ceilings here
Any ideas for a better display method anyone?
I'll take another crack at it in the next days if anyone has any bright ideas, I'm exhausted from doing this round, you don't know how much work was involved to get that shot.. moving furniture, getting 15 guitars out of their hidey holes (8 in cases!) and getting up the ladder & performing acrobatics
