Tara: Don't know if you are familiar with stiching pictures. Some cameras have that feature where you can just pan over and put about 3 photos together. My digiatal will do that but I have not yet fooled with that feature. Looks like you did very well getting them all in one shot. Be careful on the ladder.

Did you ever imagine that buying a Duo-Jet would lead to getting complimented on having such a "beautiful pair" AND and "great spread?"
Name one other guitar that can do that for someone!

Wow, that's a lovely collection!
When you have more guitars than stands, it becomes tricky to shoot them all at once, doesn't it?
You might try arranging them like spokes on a wheel, with the heads pointing at the "hub". Even then, more than 8 at a time could be an issue, the bigger the diameter gets, the more height you need...
With most of the "collection" shots I have seen, the trade off is clusters with one or two "hero" instruments obscuring what's behind them.
Come to think of it, there's at least one excellent photographer round these parts, I'm sure they'll have advice for you!
Bondi, eh? Say hi to Simpson Street next time you're passing - that's where my apartment was.
BTW - is Eastside music still on the main road up to the Junction?

Thanks for the tips!! great ideas! I always had hangers at our old house, so I never acquired stands.. I have one dodgy old one that needs replacing - it's been on the shopping list a while. I don't think I can afford 15 stands at once, that'd be one heck of a bill
I'll have to get them all out & have a proper play around, I was in a bit of a rush this afternoon!
Wow, you must have been here pre-1998... good ol' Bondi Rd.. Eastside closed down and Ben Collins (that name ring a bell?) opened a place across the street called the Bondi Rock Shop, I worked there for 4 years through highschool before that too closed down.. you might remember James from Eastside, he's up your way in the UK now and is a (not-so-active) member here, "octatonic".. I bumped into him on the TDPRI & we've been having a great time reminiscing about the ol days & talking gear like we used to

I'll take another crack at it in the next days if anyone has any bright ideas, I'm exhausted from doing this round, you don't know how much work was involved to get that shot.. moving furniture, getting 15 guitars out of their hidey holes (8 in cases!) and getting up the ladder & performing acrobatics
|
why not "pose" them like our friend John Reardon and put them in a circle. except, you'll have a smaller circle. just a thought.

I was fortunate enough to stay between January 91 & April 92, think I remember Eastside being run (or at least managed) by a guy called Brent - he'd just come off the road with the Hoodoo Gurus.
I bought quite a lot of stuff off him (we didn't know it was called GAS back then) - still have the Boss Chorus on my pedalboard from Eastside!
My memory is getting patchier with age, but nearly all of them from the time I spent living in Bondi are good. Great weather, the beach, the food, VBs at the Beach Hotel...
The only downside was that guitars were soooo expensive!

Why, funny you should ask...
The 6128 EE will be here Wednesday and the Champagne Jet will be here by Friday the latest. While I won't be able to afford to do so for bit, I'm just about certain that I'll be putting MagnaTrons in the Champagne Jet. That will bring from two guitars and a bass - my modest build up over the last couple of years in an attempt to recapture some former glory of being a Gretsch slut - to a total of SIX (including the Jazz bass), the last three all being added in the last two and a half months. What’s crazy is that if I had the bread I could easily garb another four guitars NOW (as in right now via the World Wide Interweb). Those would be: a 6120 JR2, one of two nice 000-18's on the 'Bay, a G6134T-LTV White Penguin (you know how badly I gotta have that bird) and, of course, a Dyna Duo-Jet just like yours. That'd be a clean $8000 or so in about fifteen mouse clicks.
Ahh, to dream…

Woohoo!! I'll be holding my breath for you - can't wait to see pics & also hear those magnas when you get around to buying & installing em!!
I'm picking the dyna jet as your next "must get" GAS explosion
Your GAS list is droolworthy, the only thing seriously niggling me on mine now is another AC30 (niggling me since the week after I sold my old one, d'oh) and eventually a Double Jet to stick TV something-or-other-trons in ...we can certainly dream!

Sorry about the delays with more pics & the sound clips folks, the weekend became overwhelming and spilled a little into today too - things should be settling down tomorrow so I'll take another crack at it then!
I had a really really great jam/lesson with my ex-boss last night, and then another great lil jam with a real close friend today (who came by just to meet the new Duo Jet) so I've had a good chance to compare them against eachother now, and also to a few different Fenders & Gibbies, and I'm so impressed & so in love with these two Jets it's scary.. I may as well sell almost everything else (but I don't think I will!).
More photos & soundclips coming soon, I promise.

HELP!!!!
I've just put it on the bench to give it a proper setup so I can do sound clips for you all.. and it seems the bridge has been glued down IN THE WRONG F**KING SPOT.
It doesnt seem to be superglue, it's still gummy and I can begin to lift the bridge off even with just my hand..
WHAT DO I DO?!!??!
I dont want to wreck the paint, hence I'm being careful, but I've gotta get this bridge floating again one way or another.

Ok, phew, thin double-sided tape.. managed to pry it off very gently with a few deep breaths - no damage - now to clean off the bottom of the bridge, the top of the guitar, intonate & go back to the fine-tuning I was doing.
Sorry for the false alarm
whoever set this up was a useless tool
Any glue-cleaning ideas?

If the tape used is of the "non-permanent variety" (it will probably be clear in colour)... splash some mild detergent (like for washing dishes) in a bowl of hot water. Dip in soft cloth and then use gentle strokes on the finish. Try it on the base of the bridge first - should deactivate the adhesive. Should rub right off.
If the tape is a more aggressive semi-permanent adhesive (may be red - like a photo masking tape), you may have to resort to something a little stronger.
Lighter fuel (liquid not gas) used sparingly on a soft cloth is good for this. circular motions - don't be tempted to scrub
I used to work in an art studio, we used lighter fuel for cleaning up overspray of mounting adhesive all the time.
BTW - It smells bad and make you feel a bit giddy, so make sure you have plenty of ventilation, or you'll be seeing things

WOW! That was quite a scare.
Lighter fluid has worked for me in the past so with several good suggestions hopefully you'll have that gunk off of your jet posthaste. It's funny; of all the things one checks over when buying a guitar, checking to see how a floating bridge is fastened (or not fastened) was not one of the first things that would come to mind for me. It will now!
I'm sure by now you've got it all set up and intonated perfectly. I'm really looking forward to hearing your opinions and thoughts on the differences between the Filters and Dynas.

Close one indeed - I was sweating, my heart was racing, visions of chips of paint missing, superglue & etc were in my mind.. thankfully it all worked out for the best
Yep - all set up & intonated now, even needed the truss rod loosened a little! I ended up using a bit of soap & lighter fluid, thanks for the suggestions everyone!!
I've had a couple of good plays now, especially now that it's set up nicely & feels good for me, but all the delays today mean I didn't get around to sound clips.. I'll give you my oppinions for now though:
The Dynasonics are very very juicy for single-coils (just as I think the filtertrons are juicy for humbuckers), they're a lot warmer than any single coils I've heard but very clear & crisp with almost bell-like tones, I can understand the "Tele on Steroids" and "P90" calls.. They both (dynas & filters) have that great Gretsch tone to them, but in different ways, they're unique enough that you can tell them apart easily.. Definitely my fav single coil tone by far!

Try sitting on the couch when you play....
They look great and all you need now are Jeff's Gretsch® pokerchips.... And maybe some potato chips...

Lookin good there girl. Congrats on the guitars and getting the bridge cleaned up and intonated. I have found that Goo-Gone works very well for removing label and tape residue. It has never harmed any finish that I have used it on and works very well. Keep up the good work.

that's one happy young lady standing there. I like to think of the DynaSonic pick ups as having a "bite" to their sound. I played SaltyDog's Country Club with Dynas before he sold it and I liked the sound that they had. enjoy that nice guitar.

Earlier today I was tooling around with the new Kendrick ABC box I just got so I had three amps up and running. Just a nice low level noodling with the Spectrasonic. It had been a while since I pulled the DSW out of the case so I tuned her up and plugged her in. She about chased me out of the room. I didn't change any levels on any of the amps and it cranked!
I had to laugh at myself later on. A pair of SD Dynas came up for sale on the GDP and I snickered No! I don't need'em!

Late to the party but wanted to be sure to congratulate you on the duo of duo jets, Tara! Very cool indeed! Have you developed any preferences as far as the tone switch vs tone pot circuitry is concerned? I actually use my tone controls a lot, so the switch didn't quite do it for me. Congrats again!

I tend to go for the Spectrasonic first just because it's an easier guitar to get to. It's an easier guitar to handle and I do love the Powertrons but I have to admit they have nothing on the Dynas. That guitar continues to amaze me everytime I pull it out of the case! I keep saying to myself it would be redundant to buy a Duo-Jet..............but not if it has dynas in it!

Well, I got the studio alive & kicking again (for the most part) but because I'm incredibly hungry by now I didn't exactly do my finest work in the clips.. excuse the less-than-perfect tone & shoddy playing, I was in a hurry
Using the Marshall MG100DFX, EQ set pretty neutral, low gain, no effects pedals. And the Duo Jets (6128T with Filters, 6128T-1957 with Dynas) naturally.
Filtertron Demo
Dynasonic Demo
I promise I'll try do some better ones when some time finds me

Thank you, Tara. Awesome sound clips. Those Dynas sound ridiculously sweet! Now that's all I'll be able to think of until I get a Dyna Jet!
Were there any issues with noise or hum?

Thanks Darin
No hum or noise, even with the Dynas running though 6 pedals, but my only two amps right now are solid state.. so that plays a small part in it
I had it round at a friends the night after I got it & was playing through their VOX AC30, reminded me how much I miss mine & how I need to replace it, there was no hum or noise there either.. I was expecting to hear at least a little. Lets wait & see till we get it to a shoddy venue with shoddy power

Cool sounding clips Tara - I can really hear what you mean about "tele on steroids" from the dyna. Clear but not glassy. Like that a lot.
Now all you need is something with valves to play through...
