This could be wrong... but my understanding has been the DE style arm has the "notch" that hinders the arm from swiveling too far located on the arm, and all the later Bigsby designs applied that "notch" on the base of the unit instead of the arm itself.

The DE arm has a lug that is part of the arm, this acts as a stop, when it reaches it's limit on its travel, the mounting it flat where it mates to the cam with a washer, normal arms are flat with a stop lug on the cam where they meet, the DE arm is also thicker and comfier to use.
You have to get the arm and cam (don't know the correct name) and fit them to the string bar, as they are not interchangable as far as i can tell. Unless you grind off the lug on the normal cam.

Interesting. I've looked closely at Duane Eddy's arms in many pictures, but I still can't see the "notch" you're referring to!
Oh wait, you're talking about the BIGSBY arm....

You can only see the notch with a very up-close view as it's under the swivel area of the arm.

I met him a couple of years ago and they are prominent in person. I had to force myself not to stare.
