New gear inbound (slooooowly)!!
Well, now starts the (OMFG too long) waiting... Did some work in exchange for gear, only to find that ALL the gear I wanted is basically on backorder... So, anyway, rather than focusing on the wait, let's focus on the gear!!
After weeks of hemming and hawwing trying to decide what exactly I wanted (Falcon? 6120? SSLVO? DSW? DE? EC? DuoJet?), I decided that I wanted/needed some variety between the two and ordered the following combo: - G6134 White Penguin with B3G Bigsby
- G6120RHH Reverend Horton Heat
- Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue
I figured, this way I've got poly/lacquer, TVJs/Dynas, Jet/6120 all covered. I debated on leaving the Penguin a hardtail, but I love Bigsbys, so figured it was a must.
The Penguin should arrive sometime in July, the amp sometime in the next 30 days... but the RHH won't arrive until probably OCTOBER...
Oh well, wish me luck in keeping my sanity waiting until it's all arrived! I can't wait, sooooo beyond excited, this is all my "I'm finally out of the Army and will NEVER have to deploy to some sh*y rathole EVER again" gift to myself. Is it October yet? Not yet? How about now, is it October now??

You'll love the DRRI. The signature models are not really a big deal for me, but the Penguin's kind of interesting.

Thanks, jbcallendar... I got the RHH not 'cause I'm a huge RHH fan (although I am), but because it has the exact mix of features I was looking for (and I LOVED the one I had before my last deployment).
What part of SA are you in? We need to setup a Texas Gretsch jam one of these days...

Thanks, nadles! What part of Australia are you in? I visited Cairns in 2010 and loved it...

Agreed - thx for serving and keeping us safe. Pre-congrats on the pending new gear - you deserve it! '65 DRRI is a nice match for any Gretsch. Hopefully, you've got something else to plug into it while you're waiting for the Penguin and RHH!

Nope, Dilver, I'm currently guitarless, so going crazily antsy while waiting for the Gretsch goodness to arrive... The good news is the Penguin and the DRRI should both show up about the same time next month...

Not sure if you're tinkerer like me (I can't leave well enough alone) or prefer to leave things stock, but you might like some of these mods for the DRRI - most of which are pretty simple and easily reversible. I also just swapped the speaker for an Eminence Cannabis Rex. Love it.

Some of which mods? And yes, I'm a tinkerer (you should've seen my old heavily modded 5120 and Epi Valve Jr).

Speaking of mods, here's my old 5120:

Mods included StrapLoks, TV Jones Classic/Classic Plus, custom pickguard, modded Bigsby (smoothed the action, put in a bigger spring), Sperzel locking tuners, custom DIY dice knobs, custom strap.

You forgot to mention that you also added a beautiful woman to your guitar as well.

Thank you for your service. A well-deserved gift.
I'm totally jealous of the White Penguin! I'm saving right now and can't decide between a Black Penguin or a G6128T-DSV.

Nice choices all. Actually, IMHO, you've covered the essential ground here. I've always felt that a balanced Gretsch collection should have a Dynasonic Jet or Penguin and a hollow body with Filters or, in this case, TV Classics. I agree completely about the Bigsby on the Penguin. Bigbys and Gretsches are a great match.
The DRRI is my amp of choice and works well for me with Dynas, HS Filters, TV Classics, TV Supertrons and the TV Classic Plus. (Gosh, I didn't realize that I had such a variety of pickups.) Anyhow, I use it for most indoor gigs and use a TRRI outdoors.

Thanks, man! I vote Penguin, they're just soooo stinkin' cool looking! If you get a chance go on YouTube and find the video of Joe C playing one, it'll give you instant GAS.

Thanks, Synchro! Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks that way...
